I have contacted MOTU and they claim that their drivers work perfectly well with 10.4.9 and 10.4.10.
yeah, I never have my machine go to sleep... energy saver is always deactivated in all respects. While turning off the screen saver is an interesting idea, my audio drop out occurs before the screen saver appears, thus negating any relation of the problem to screen saver use.
The 2GB dilemma with Logic was something I wasn't aware of, and I wonder (Sears) what Pro App update you are speaking of (which version)? however, while I have seen some freaky bugs in logic, having audio go to sleep because of high RAM usage sounds a bit far fetched.
And for the record, MOTU doesn't know "the s word" about any of this, or at least they aren't saying. When I spoke with them they claimed their hardware and accompanying drivers (which haven't been updated for half a year!) work flawlessly up to 10.4.10. They then tried to point the finger at Apple, saying maybe there is a problem with Logic or my particular computer (don't you love it when they pass the problem on!).
One thing I did think of after reading through various posts here and elsewhere, is the fact that the logic preference file I use on the Mac Pro originated from a G5. It has been suggested that forcing logic to create a new one might offer some relief... but I haven't tried this. Just curious if anyone else is running off a pref file from a G5, or if you are having 2408 issues from a completely fresh install of logic?
Note that I am not using Logic on a Mac Pro to sequence with, I am only using it as a host. Therefore I am never really pressing "play". Which actually brings up an interesting issue with core usage, but I guess i'll leave that for another topic.
My ProApp update is 4.0.1 and while it seems to have removed most of my memory-related crashes it has not removed them all. Allegedly this problem cannot be fixed properly while Logic is still a 32-bit kernel application so I guess we'll have to hope for V8 fix. I still have one session which crashes frequently for no apparant reason.
Incidentally my preference file came from a G4 and my system still seems OK. But it's always worth a try deleting it and creating a fresh one as they can become corrupted.
I assume you have tried changing the hardware buffer size to see if this make any difference. You say you are using logic as a host - how exactly? Are you using the IAC busses or syncing via MIDI ports or what? Do you have an error report you could post or not?
