Macbook Pro Warped Lid Issue

I have seen many postings on this problem. I bought a 17" Macbook Pro, and when I took it out of the box it had the warped lid problem. In a laptop that cost $3500, I couldn't accept this shoddy workmanship. Particularly since my Mac Pro is a work of art, and perfection. I noticed that after using the laptop for a few hours, the problem actually worsened. I thought that perhaps heat may be causing the problem. I contacted Apple care, and they told me that they are aware of the problem, and that my Apple store would help me. I took the computer to my Apple store. They were very helpful, and got me another laptop. I asked if we could open it there to be sure that it was not warped. They opened it, and it was warped as well. They appologized, and got me another one. This one seemed ok. I took it home, and within a few hours of use, it too was warped. In fact, warped even more than the first one. I returned this one for a refund. The Apple store treated me very well, and was extremely helpful. There is no doubt that this is a defect, and no one at Apple Care, or the Apple Store told me that this was normal and acceptable. In fact they were very solicitous, and seemed willing to do whatever was needed to make me a happy customer. Here's my question. Is Apple going to address this problem anytime soon? I would like to purchase another Macbook Pro, but not until this defect is addressed. (And I don't mean with rubber stick on spacers.)

Well, i called Applecare today and they were helpful for the most part. I personally chose to report the isssue since i have the extended coverage plan and have the option of dealing with this problem later down the line if it worsens. My only beef with the customer service rep. was the implication that this problem was unheard of. After reading your post it seems as if you were told they were aware of the issue with the warped lids. If you could let me know exactly what the rep said it would be helpful incase i call back.

Thank you

Well, I got my MBP back a few days ago after I had sent it in to fix the problems they created from "fixing" the warped lid. I didn't really get MY MBP back, rather A MBP. They swapped my hard drive with another refurbished MBP. This one has the same issues I had sent my first one in for. I am just going to deal with the problems. Not worth the "repairs" unless it is really effecting daily use.

I just got my 15" MacBook Pro yesterday and didn't notice my warped lid until I closed it today. Unlike other's who leave their MBP's open all day, I open and close mine a few times a day and bring will it back and forth from home to the office about 4 days a week. Also, I have an 18 month old at home so I'm in the practice of closing this thing every single time it's not being used. The warping and possible future closure issues is going to be really annoying. After reading this thread I'm not going bring my computer back to my Apple store even though I live only 20 blocks from one. I bought Apple Care so I feel somewhat protected if the issue makes the MBP unusable. I'm so glad I checked this site before going to the Genius Bar and waiting there for an hour listening to them explain very nicely to others how to delete email. Take care.

I had a 2.33 MBP, however the GPU and Disk drive messed up. There was lid warpage in that one.

After a while of going back and forth to applecare, they replaced my 15" 2.33 for a top of the line 17" 2.4 (of the new santa rosa models) However i am starting to get the lid warpage on the left side of this MBP too.

They gave me Apple care 3yr for free (to say sorry for the old MBP) so i will report this now, then down the line i can have the lid fixed or replaced or something.
