Wow! You guys throw around an awful lot of money. Many of you here are talking about the last gen iPods you have and how you all have iPod classics as well. Is all this capitalism necessary? Anyways, all I need is a little screen protector. I called a couple Apple Stores and am thoroughly disappointed that none are in as yet. What gives? Anyways, I'm think InvisibleShield has one on the way... that's what I'm waiting on.

I use this case for my 160GB Classic (silver)
http://corecases.com/product.php?productid=20

It's a complete, aluminium (aluminum to you americans ;)) shell, so really protects the iPod 🙂 It makes it larger, but I think it was too large for my pockets anyway (with phone, cards, keys, cash etc :P so now i wear it round my neck... feel like a proper geek :S but it's out the way and accesible 🙂 and no chance of the iPod getting scratched or anything.

They have a few colours... the silver one was a little more sparkly than i expected :P but either i've gotten used to it or the sparkles have reduced.

It has clear plastic over the screen, but the connectors and buttons/clickwheel are all exposed, so there's no need to ever take it out 🙂

in summary! Geeky, but quite slick :P

The best case that I got for my new iPod Classic 80GB is from this company called CoverCase . After I did my research, they are the only one with leather cases released for the new iPod classic at a very reasonable price. I ordered mine the same day I ordered my iPod classic and they arrived on the same day. The leather case fits like a glove. I had an iSkin evo3 for my old ipod video and I see that they have the iSkin evo3 for the classic too. So I ordered that as well... I'll let you know how it fits.

Cheers, ;o)
Oh the website is: http://www.covercase.com

I bought an InCase leather sleeve for my 60gig 5th gen when I first got it 2 years ago. At first it was only mostly ok, because that plastic circle covering the click wheel didn't work quite as well as advertised--it didn't register my finger along the top third of the wheel at all. But after experimenting--disastrously, since it scratched up the face pretty badly--with a hard, clear plastic case (I can't remember the brand), I wound up going back to the InCase. I eventually took a knife and cut the stitching out of that circle, and removed it. The click wheel was never prone to scratching anyway, and this made it a near-perfect solution for me.

Last weekend I bought a new 160gig Classic. I've never liked the idea of one of those billfold-style cases, and at the time, that was pretty much the only case style yet available for the Classics. So I went to my local Apple store to buy the new iPod, and brought my InCase with me to test. As it happens, the 160gig is almost exactly the same size as the 60 gig 5th gen (which, in turn, is the same size as an 80gig 5.5 gen, so far as I know). It's very slightly thinner, but the end result of that is just that it's easier for me to take it in and out, since the InCase was a really tight fit for my 5th gen.

Since the proportions from old to new (i.e. the screen size, dock location, and control positions) are all the same from 5th gen to 6th, and since the sizing is only very, very slightly different, most cases designed for a 5th gen iPod should work with a Classic, so long as you make sure to get one designed for a 30/40 gig 5th if you've got an 80 gig Classic, or something for a 60/80 gig if you've got a 160 gig. The exception will be any hard cases that snap on or cases designed to fit really, really snuggly, like the various skin-style ones. Those will probably fit loosely or not at all.

I just purchased the invisibleSHIELD from http://www.shieldzone.com for my new 160GB ipod classic.

Upside? It looks amazingly clear and covers the entire ipod, top to bottom and front to back. It is laser cut to specifications and comes with application fluid (some kind of alcoholic base) and a squeegie to ensure no air bubbles between the shield and ipod. Clickwheel sensitivity is superb and not at all affected with the thin invisibleSHIELD after installation...

Downside? It takes a very clean environment to ensure that no dust, dirt, fibers stick to the invisibleSHIELD during installation. After installation (which can be finished in under 15 minutes), the invisibleSHIELD manufacturer recommends that you not use your ipod for 24 hours, and maybe a few days after to fully allow all of the adhesive to dry and the shield to completely "mold" to the shape of the iPod. It conforms to the shape of the ipod perfectly, but does take at least 24 hours to "settle" and for all of the microscopic air bubbles to vanish...

Overall opinion? Looks great. I have the black ipod classic, and it looks wonderfully protected with a nice looking glossy shine after installation of the invisibleSHIELD. The scratch-prone back of the ipod is now safe and my engraving will always be readable no matter how much you do to the ipod.

Best News? Prices just dropped 20% temporarily on the manufacturer website to account for delays with the new ipod classics and nanos since their release last week. Get it while it's hot and before your ipod gets scratched or damaged.
