iPod sync generates Error -54

Use a path such as:

inside the quote marks, where the first part of the path is the disk's name.

Thanks a lot, but what actually made the difference was the "of home", when I took that out it went through the routine without a problem. And now it syncs perfectly

Do we have to do this everytime we want to sync? Or will it stay like this for good now? Do I have to re open up the script editor everytime?

The changes made by the script will not expire on their own, but iTunes or another application may relock the files and require that the script be rerun.

I also have a hard drive, but as I read your instructions I'm confused. Could you literally spell out what I would need to cut and paste into Apple Script?

Fantastic! Thanks for the solution about the -54 error. I've been plagued by this for months! I first got the problem with my main iPod, a 60Gb video one and tried all sorts of things to fix it. In the end, bought a new iPod nano video yesterday and still got the error. Doh! But after trying various things, like Repairing my discs etc. I found the -54 problems on the Discussions.
Ran the bit of script to unlock the files and now, after restarting Itunes, it syncs perfectly. Thanks again.

What do I actually type in as the folder name? When I put "Music:iTunes" it gives me an error message "can't get entire contets of Music:iTunes".

Can you help? I've never run an Apple Script so really don't know what I'm doing.

Niel, Thanks so much for your suggestion. After months of having no problems with iTunes after that initial problem, I made a new playlist tried to sync and got that error again. I'm so glad that I don't have to throw out my Nano!

Niel, will this script apply to all new music that I import to the library or will I have to do that every time I import new music?

The script needs to be run whenever you get that error message.

Mine's been doing the exact same thing.

Except I've noticed something in that it seems to be trying to copy the same 400 or so songs over and over. Maybe these songs are corrupted or something, but if I enable disk mode and drag them over, they sync just fine. I unchecked the songs that were having problems, except then it just refused to sync and I don't know which song(s) are causing the problem. I want things automatically synced. Boo. I did just restore my iPod and change it from Windows-formatted to Mac, since this computer now houses my music library.

I ran the AppleScript, so I guess I'll see if that worked later...

In the Finder, create a new window and navigate to the folder which contains the iTunes library. That error message appears when there are no windows open in the Finder or the frontmost window isn't a folder window.
