Ipod Classic syncing issues - Ejecting

Hi Everyone.

I've just bought the new ipod classic and I'm having problems connecting the device to my pc. I've used ipods before with this pc with no problem.

Each time I connect the ipod will automatically eject itself within a few seconds. It will not show up in itunes at all. I have fully charged the ipod but this did not work.

Any ideas? I've noticed that quite a few people on this forum are having similar problems.

Thanks

Windows XP

Hi Guys, i also had the same experience but i found out something about it. Most USB ports can only supply 500mA of current and when a certain USB device exceeds this rating the OS (e.g. Windows) suspends and disconnects this device. Ipod seems to draw more than 500mA when it is charging. I noticed this because my iPod never gets disconnected when it's fully charged, that means it's doesn't get disconnected when it draw less current.

This case varies on different computers. My Ipod never gets disconnected when i connect it to my notebook but gets disconnected when i connect it to my old desktop computer.

These are few ways of dealing with this:

1. Fully charge your ipod frist before having connected it to you computer.
2. Use a powered USB hub.
3. Try using other USB port on your computer.
3. Try connecting your iPod to other computers.

Hope this helps.

I've had issues connecting ipods in the past, particualarly if this is the second (or third, etc.) ipod I've connected to a particular itunes/windows installation.

This is a well documented issue. In my case, an external hard drive and my ipod were fighting for the same drive letter. See the link below for more info.

My Classic 160GB starting doing the eject thing today the worst part was iTunes wasn't able to do anything because it kept ejecting,I have managed to stop the ejecting temporarily,by switching the iPod over to Disk Mode then connecting it,iTunes detected it fine and I'm in the middle of a very Large Sync (still in Disk Mode)Syncing 5200 320kbs songs)so I am not sure what will happen once the sync is complete, but at least now I can connect and restore if necessary.incidentally iTunes gave me an error stating that Syncing is not possible because a needed folder could not be found.I exited the error msg and that's when the incessant ejecting started.hopefully this will help apple or anyone else fix the issue.

I Finished the Sync, ejected the Ipod and switched it back to normal mode and plugged it back in.iTunes found it and everything seems to be working fine again for me.

Okay, here's what I've found:
1. My new 80Gb Classic will sync to other computers, but not the one with my music on.
2. On my computer, it ejects within seconds of connecting.
3. My OLD 3rd Generation 20Gb will happily sync on my computer.
All of which suggests it is an issue connecting the Classic with computers which have some particular software or hardware issue.
My next move will have to be to restore a drive image on my main computer of a fresh install of windows, and see if it's software or hardware. If it's hardware, it can only be the motherboard, as I've tried the onboard USB ports as well as every other option. It seems not impossible that it could be some kind of deep motherboard chipset/iPod incompatibility. But I'd much rather thing that it was a simple software conflict that could be resolved.

I shall report back.

Hey guys i bought the 80GB classic a few days back, last night when i plugged in my iPOD it showed connected but then suddenly it displayed ejecting please wait and the ipod returned to its main menu..My comp is reading it(i can see it in usb drives as "apple ipod drive", but not in my computer)..it also makes that sound on inserting and removing the cord..itunes too doesnt read it..i tired resetting my ipod but that did not work..the same thing is happening on my other USB ports.
I have got an adapter for charging and it has 2000mA written on it and the USB sources only 500mA...would that have created any problem? PLEASE HELP PEOPLE!!!!
