Ipod Classic syncing issues - Ejecting

Hi Everyone.

I've just bought the new ipod classic and I'm having problems connecting the device to my pc. I've used ipods before with this pc with no problem.

Each time I connect the ipod will automatically eject itself within a few seconds. It will not show up in itunes at all. I have fully charged the ipod but this did not work.

Any ideas? I've noticed that quite a few people on this forum are having similar problems.

Thanks

Okay, upgraded BIOS, but it made no difference. However, I did manage, somehow, to do a complete sync until finished, without the iPod ejecting (after several identical failures, which is how I know it wasn't the BIOS.
However, suddenly, iTunes says "Downloading new software please wait". Excellent, I thought, they've solved the problem with a new iPod software build.
No. Still the same issues.

😟

Can it be the chipset? Can it be something to do with processor? It must be some kind of hardware issue.

Please someone solve this, it's driving me berserk.

Okay, I have now solved the problem! (for me, at least)
It definitely seems to have been some kind of power issue. I took a PCI USB card from another computer, and put it in mine, and this seems to do the trick. Plugging it into an extended USB port (such as the front of the machine) or even into a port on the motherboard isn't good enough. Clearly a PCI card has different power issues. Presumably a powered hub would work as well.
I hope this helps others who have suffered this problem (and would like to hear if it does!)

Best wishes,

Paul

I have an 80G IPOD-classic and it too is exhibiting this connecting followed by an eject a couple of seconds later. I have tried the reset sequence but that does not stop the connect/disconnect cycling.

I have had the ipod for about 4 weeks and it has been problem free until a couple of days ago. I did recently upgrade the software in the ipod using itunes.

My problem now is that I cannot get the ipod to remain connected to the usb port long enough to try anything like an ipod restore.

Based on the comments in this thread I decided to try a powered hub to see if the problem was a power overload on my laptop's usb port. The powered hub did not have any discernable effect on the problem. The cycling between usb connected and disconnected condition continued.

I will continue to monitor this thread while at the same time see if I can find anything else on the Internet that might be a remedy.

I will be sure to report back if I find a cure for my problem.

I should mention that the ipod continues to play the songs that I previously loaded on it just fine.

Thanks AngeloSG. I first tested my iPod Classic 160GB with syncing after a full charge and it would sync once. I repeated this a bunch of times and it would always sync immediately after a full charge and fail repeatedly until I charged again.

I then went and picked up a powered USB hub and have not had a problem ever since. This really makes since now with all of the larger external drives requiring power and my little 2.5" only working with my laptop if one or the other is plugged in.

Apple, shame on not anticipating this problem !!!

Just bought an new ipod classic 80GB today. Tried for about an hour plugging it into a usb hub that I have been using with three other ipod models for quite a long time now. No success, same problem. It is ejected seconds after I pluggin the device. Also tried 4r's without any luck. Then found this thread and was reminded that my usb hub actually came with a power supply but never used. Digged out the power supply and connected it to the usb hub. Pluggin my new ipod classic 80GB into the hub. It worked and I am transferring files to the ipod now. Thanks for everyone sharing their experience and hopefully mine can help others as well.

I bought my iPod Friday, for the first 3 days I had a problem with it asking me to register it every time I connected it, since last night it started the ejecting problem.

Here is a clue, one time that I plugged it in this morning it told me that the iPod was not configured for windows and asked me if I would like to do a restore, I said yes, but got ejected anyway.

My iPod seems to work just fine except for the ejecting and not syncing.

I miss my Video, why did I break the screen?

Okay, here was my problem….sounds similar to yours but whenever I plugged in my new iPod Classic I got the “blue screen” of death and it shut my computer down. After spending over an hour on the phone with Apple support we were able to resolve the issue.

Right click on “my computer” and select “properties”

Click the “hardware” tab and then select “device manager”

Click the + sign next to “universal bus controllers”

Right click on any items that identified as “usb host controller” or “usb universal host controller”

Click “update driver”, select “yes, this time only” and the next button

Select “install the software automatically” and the next button

It will automatically search and install updated drivers

If you have more than one item on your “device manager” that says “universal bus controllers”; follow the same steps above on all items. I had two “universal bus controllers” on my “device manager” because I had installed an after market USB2 card. After I did the updates it merged them into one.

My iPod Classic “synced” perfectly after I installed the updates. Hope it works for you!

On a side note; when calling Apple support you need to be forceful, they try to write your problems off to a “system” error if you are running a Windows computer. I refused to be turned away telling them if they sell a product that’s suppose to work on a Windows based computer they better support it. Insist on having your issue elevated to the next level of support. That’s the only way your gonna get it resolved.

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading this topic but I'm now experiencing this issue.

First sync worked fine, ever since my 160gb pod is detected but asks me to register it (which I already have done as the name appears in the left hand list), if I choose register or update software (as there is a new version out) my pod ejects itself.

I've tried everything listed here and still no luck. Would anyone have any other suggestions please??
