WTF is up with LP8?

Is it just me or does the new interface look like it should be renamed GarageBand Pro?
I'm not sure I'll be in the front of the line picking this up until I've seen some reviews first.
It just looks like all of the worst aspects of GarageBand rolled up with a nice little "pro" moniker.
Not for nothing, I happen to like different screen sets accessible at the touch a button... Where's eMagic when you need them?
(sorry for ********, but I hate it when an update causes you to change the way you work)

..and for the record, I liked the XSKey too.

okay, I got it out of my system, I'll quit my crying.

Your statement is redundant.
While you may be trying to take a dig at me, you are only further proving my point.

"you are letting a tool use you, not you using a tool."

It is a tool, when the tool manufacturer decides that you are now being given a standard high speed muffler bearing and now you must use a left handed metric hammer to make a door open and now you must pop the trunk to use the wiper blades.....Do you see my point, or would you care to make my point again for me?

My gripe is the redesign of a tool that I use day in and day out... while I'd love to move forward with the new added features, I'm a little annoyed with the unified interface where everything is competing
for the same real estate instead of taking a feature away from a program because it's "too spread out" and then thinking "hey, lets add that functionality to the OS instead" (i.e. Spaces in Leopard 10.5). ....~wha thuh fuh?~.... they should have left some of it up to the end user to decide how they want Logic configured... the way it has ALWAYS been. if they had just added the new UI to the arrange it would have been fine... but for the love of god, leave the rest of it there.

"all i can venture is that your music must be pretty f**kin' boring to need a DAW upgrade to "make it better" "

All I can say to that statement is I actually use the software for my clients. I actually use this in a real world environment with people that pay money to have their recordings engineered and produced by someone who can deliver a product with the "sound" they are looking for.
MY music on the other hand has been on the back burner since 2001 when I started to engineer for the Boston punk scene. My music gave me all I ever wanted out of it, including my 15 minutes.
THAT being said, shame on you for taking a needless stab at someone's writing and performing skills that you've never met. It'd be like me telling you that because you like the unified Logic interface that you are not qualified to work with a program above Garage Band. It's not nice Davey.

I agree with u 100 percent AcmeAudioEng.! I'm also unhappy at the fact that I just paid 600 bucks for the Logic Express 7 upgrade to Logic Pro 7 back on August 15th. I also bought all 5 of the Jam Packs that day as well. I also paid a lot of cash to upgrade Soundtrack to Soundtrack Pro 1. Now all of this software is included for just 500 bucks! I'm happy for the price cut and all of the included software but I feel like I have been kicked in the chops!

Well hurry up. You're entitled to a FREE upgrade - ending today.

Presumably, the software was worth the money you paid for it, when you bought it, otherwise you wouldn't have?

Having said that, most of the times in the last few months when people were asking if they should upgrade to Logic Pro, most of the responses suggested that L8's release was imminent. . .

Ok.... You don't even have the upgrade. Why don't you check out Logic Pro help and talk to people that have been using the upgrade for a couple of days. Its nothing like garage band. I've use Logic every day all day and this update has addressed 90% of my workflow issues while totally rebuilding the audio engine. And to boot compressor / soundtrackpro / Jam Packs and a reduced price. Not to shaby for one update. I'm not really sure what some people are complaining about. I guess some people just like to complain.

I've been reading on forums a ton of positive things, but I don't get the negative. There are a few more things I would have liked to see implemented but it has far surpassed my expectations and will only get better with Leopard coming out this fall.

My 2cents.

The music industry is not a "nice" industry and the people in it are not "nice" people.
So why should i be "nice".

You sir, are a patronising pr*ck..

well my brothuh ovuh nuthuh muthuh, as soon as the servers quit being a pain in the patoot I'll pass along the well deserved starfish.
Thank you for dealing with my neurotic behavior and having a sense of humor.
other than that, thank you for helping me clarify the changes with the new Logic Studio too. I guess Apple will be getting my money sooner than later. (you had to know that I wasn't going to be left behind through a transition like this right?!)
