FYI: $100 Store Credit doesn't always work for iTunes Gift Cards

Went to the Apple Store tonight to use my $100 credit. Workers and managers say nope to getting iTunes Gift Cards. They pulled up the verbiage on the credit and said it clearly states that you can't use it for iTunes Gift Cards. I explained that it says iTunes Gift Certificates, not Gift Cards. They told me there's no difference and that they've been instructed by corporate to not issue iTunes Gift Cards with the credit.

That's exactly what the manager told me. That it's semantics. However, then why does Apple make the distinction? The physical cards say Gift Card. The one that is emailed says Gift Certificate.

If they are the same, then why are they listed separately. I had no problem purchasing iTunes Gift Cards with my credit.

The manager was wrong. The original terms stated both. They were modified and iTunes Gift Cards were removed. There appears to be a lack of communications with the Apple Stores.

If I called the Apple Store and told them I wanted to order an iTunes Gift Certificate they would ask me who I wanted to Email it to. If I asked for an iTunes Gift Card they would ask who I wanted to mail it to. Does Baskin Robins have both?

I know he was wrong. He's still wrong because I called back today and he says the same thing. I was in the store AFTER they changed the wording. He's wrong and he's unwilling to accept that he's wrong. He keeps saying he knows Apple better than I do and that Gift Cards and Gift Certificates are the same thing.

Have your tried to order them online? Another option is for you to buy something at the Apple Store with your credit and then return it. You will be issued a regular Apple Gift Card which you can then use to purchase iTunes Gift Cards.

I haven't tried to buy them online yet because I don't normally buy things online (I know I'm a goof for that. It's just that I live in a big city where everything is available to me at a moments notice... except iTunes Gift Cards apparently 🙂 )

I will probably buy them online now, but it's a pain to wait 7 days for them. I think Apple should either clarify this once and for all or size up their communication problem with their store managers.

I just purchased a $50 iTunes gift card today with no issues. I had 37 dollars left after my order and with my gift certificate and a credit card purchased the gift card. It deducted from my rebate first then charged the other 12 bucks to my credit. Its in the mail now and will be here by Thursday.

It still works!

Update: The four $25 Gift Cards I ordered Saturday were shipped today via USPS and will arrive by the 21st. So, if you buy the Cards, not the Certificates, online; there shouldn't be any problem. If you want them fast, I believe overnight shipping was only $14. That would be cheaper than driving 2 hrs to the closest Apple Store and they might not let someone have them.

1) did you go a second time and buy it with another Apple employee?
2) have the employee call Apple to verify (isn't there customer support anymore with issues like that?)

As stated in my original post, I ordered them from the Online Store. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had them shipped. In fact, I'm not sure that the local stores ship. If the employees at the local stores don't give you a hard time, you should be able to get them on the spot.

Sometimes I think it is better ordering online from an automated system, than having to deal with a person that thinks he knows everything and is never wrong. Just my two cents!
