iPod Touch TV Out???

All new iPod models (the recently released batch) use only the dock connector to output video. They have removed the lower-quality AV cable connection via the headphone jack.

In order to view video out you need the Apple component cable dock connector, or you need an iPod universal dock.

Sadly, the days of using a mini-to-RCA cable are gone. You can find the cable or dock you need in the Apple store.

I just bought a 16 GB iPod Touch and a Monster Dockconnector to S-VIDEO and A/V Cable, but I could not get it to work. Does it miss that chip that I have been reading about here? And what kind of cable will work?

On the similar subject, does anyone know if the Video Out supports web browsing?

Does this mean, that all iPod Universal docs I previously purchased in av connection kits that I have installed throughout my house, and a/v connections installed in the car to be able to view my iPod 5th Gen will not work with my new touch? Not all video devices have composite options, do they????

I saw this at argos and needed to knwo, do you get the cable with it, you know the cable to connect the ipod to the computer or is it just white pice of plastic you get.

I though i woudl get it know whilst it got a offer on it 😀 and can i use this with my Touch when i get it

At no point in my response did I indicate you could use any a/v cable, no matter who the manufacturer. In fact, I specifically said that Apple removed the AV from the headphone jack. Let me say it again: +On the new iPods you cannot connect to a TV with ANY cable through the headphone jack.+ Not Apple's, not anyone else's.

Read it again. You need an *Apple Component AV Cable* which connects via the dock. COMPONENT. As in "not standard a/v" and "not via the headphone jack."

Alternately you can use the Apple Universal Dock. By they way, I was wrong about that one-- I said the iPod Universal Dock would work, but it won't work with the iPod touch (it does work with the Classic, though). The new dock is called the Apple Universal Dock, not the iPod Universal Dock. Please note the difference.

Again, the reason for this is because the iPod touch outputs in higher definition, and the standard AV cable doesn't do it justice and would require Apple to include the inferior hardware in the ipod touch, which would increase cost, size, and limit it's capabilities in the long run.

You can find the Apple Component AV Cable and the Apple Universal Dock in the Apple Store, and soon at your nearest Best Buy.

This isn't "crippling" the iPod. It's improving it. Sometimes you have to upgrade.

I know. It's a pain in the neck with the naming confusion, but here it is again:

iPod Universal Dock = NO!

Apple Universal Dock = YES!

The difference can be told easily by checking out the back. The iPod Universal Dock has an S-Video connector, while the Apple Universal Dock does not.

Do not bother buying an iPod Universal Dock. It's old tech. You need the new one if you want to output video.

Thats just fantastic. All my pre ipod touch kit now goes in the bin......dock/cables/radio/camera connector, and now I have to spend £50 to watch video on my projector. The previous kit cost around £150 as well. God did I get up to a bad day today, what with the video graphics crashing and the youtubeNA problem. GGGRrRRRRRrrrrr

Really! i just bought one but havnt opened it yet.I only want it so i can stand the iTouch upright and charge and sync it.i DO NOT want to use it to link up to a tv etc. or play videos out of it, but will it be ok with sound.

Would it still work just for charging and syncing though?

just to add some info, the new cable you need is 49.00 from apple, you have to decide if you want composite or component, component would be highest quality video, however the video out specs of the touch is lower than the other ipods. the touch outputs 480I (interlaced) while the other ipods are 460P (progressive) ....on paper and in my experience their is a pretty dramatic difference in picture quality between the two....however we will all just have to wait til these cables become available before we can evaluate apples implementation( btw the iphone is interlaced also.)
