I can't sync this iPod anymore. After 5 or so songs I keep getting a message that says "The iPod cannot be synced. The device timed out". Things I have tried:
- Every USB port on my computer
- Rebooting
- Restarting itunes
- Screaming
- The cable from my 5G and the one that came with it
- Updating the drivers for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
- Searching this forum. That's where I got these ideas from but most of the questions seemed unanswered.
Hey! Same problem here. It works sporadically after the upgrade to the newest iTunes version which also updated the iTouch with "something" too. Now my iTunes Store purchased tv shows freeze up while syncing to the iTouch. This is VERY frustrating. I read in other forums that it is a USB port issue. Funny..it worked prior to the upgrade.
I am having the same problem but I believe it is due to purchasing a song that has something wrong with it. There is a bonus track that would only play a few seconds. When I tried to synch my IPOD Touch it gets "stuck" on that song and times out eventually. This is keeping me from being able to synch at all. I have reported a problem with the purchase to Apple. Does anyone have any other suggestions? It's not possible to remove the song from my Touch without synching?
Thanks
I figured out my problem with the "timed out" iTouch. The USB connection is 1.1. Even a higher speed hub with an external power source didn't work well. I could transfer a handful of songs (>25 at a time) with no problem but the bigger files were. I have decided to upgrade my computer at this point.
I had to have a friend copy my larger files (i.e. tv shows) onto a jumpdrive. He then saved them onto his desktop. I opened my iTunes account on his computer. He dropped the files one at a time into my Tv Shows file in my iTunes library. When that was done, I hooked my iTouch up to his computer with the 2.0 USB and it transferred seemlessly!
The last iTunes update (most recent) must of had something that would make the transfer of the data more efficient.
I recently had the same problem with my iPod Touch. I found an incompatibility between iTunes and the defragmentation service installed on my pc. When I stopped the related service (O&O defragmentation service) the problem disappeared.

Norbert
Uninstall and reinstall of iTunes worked for me. I also upgraded to 1.1.2 (I had been resisting until there was a compelling reason to do the upgrade). iPod Touch 16G
