In need of help badly (Pioneer Head Unit)

Hi All,

Recently got an AVIC-D3 head unit and a CD-I200 ipod cable with a 160 GB Ipod classic. I've been experiencing something weird - when listening to music it will eventually freeze the track title and duration display - ie :50/3:00 or whatever the time is, the song title and the bar all freeze. I can hit next/previous track and it changes the title, but the time still stays at the last song. This happens without fail each time I use after about 5 minutes of use. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Pioneer says it's Apple, Apple says it's Pioneer, Stereo dealer say's it's my ipod... I love fingerpointing

Ls,

now it is the 18th of jan 2008.
Nothing changed. I wonder if apple reads those complains of their customers.
Just installed version 1.1 of the firmware on my classic (160GB).
I have only sound no video on the avic-d3.
On the site of pioneer there is NO comment what kind of ipod does work and what kind does not.
When i contact the "apple care" support center the only thing they (shout) on the phone is: Apple does not support third party solutions at all. They send you to pioneer. There the supportdesk forwarded me to the apple support desk while apple changed their "stuff" and not Pioneer.
Meanwhile i invested a few thousand euro for a solution and from day 1 it did not work.
If i act with my customers like apple and pioneer do by asking for help after paying with no complain a lot of money for their solutions, i think a have no customers at all the next month..........
If some one of Apple reads this subject, please feel free to contact me so i can help to solve this problem for all your paying customers with the Pioneer Avic-d3 and Ipod video problems.....

regards

Maybe your problem is somewhat similar to the one referred in this post concerning Harman Kardon
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1338786&tstart=180
Harmon Kardon says:
"Hi, This is a problem created by Apple. They have put specific
chips in the new iPods that block video transfer. This was done to
quell the rampant fabrication of "illegal" docking stations. HK has yet
to receive confirmation to use the proper reading chip to allow this
function. Unfortunately right not there is nothing that can be done
until Apple gives HK this information."

I wonder what “illegal” docking stations mean – non Apple, or not paying a license to Apple?
It’s a shame Apple instead of going on to universal compliance, where the best products always win, takes the path of a stand alone brand – this will cost many, many dissatisfied costumers to Apple, and will be reflected on sales ratios in a short run – wanna bet?!

Im like you, I bought avic-d3 and new ipod at same time thinking i could watch videos in car. no video. I wish someone would fix this problem. Will not be renting any movies until this is fixed. No point in wasting my money on that.
I've heard that downloading older firmware works but can't find that older firmware. Apple do something soon.

I have the 5th generation video iPod and the D3 with the iPod interface, and while video play is no problem once the E-brake bypass was run, after using my iPod three times with the D3 it will no longer play any audio from the base of the iPod or the headphone jack! An error message displays almost every time the iPod is connected to the head unit and when it doesn't display an error ("Error-11") it will not play any audio! It ticks off seconds as if it's playing but I hear nothing. Now it won't even play through the headphones either even after being reset and restored. I'm REALLY ****** off about this. And to hear it doesn't work at all with the new iPods? Great... guess I won't be buying one of those to replace my useless 5th gen.

Hey everyone. I just want to be sure of a few things here. Using the CD-1200 connecting the ipod classic to the D3, you guys were able to get sound and full ipod control from the head-unit right? I seem to be having issues, but it looks like a firmware update (or downgrade) might fix this.

But there was an issue with the video playback...??

Now wouldn't it be possible to connect the ipod classic using the composite cable(made by ipod) to the D3 for video? I understand that there was a change to the ipod's firmware for this generation, which removed the video output via non apple brand wires but that's another story...I'm trying to find a work around before I return this new ipod classic.

Any input is much appreciated.

This is not an Apple problem for simply wanting to update and improve their products. It is also not up to Apple to fix. It is strictly up to Pioneer to fix the problem and they will, when the new model stereos are released.

It is Pioneer after all who claim their products are iPod compatible. Apple doesn't make claims that their iPods are Pioneer stereo compatible.

First of all, it's Apple's "update and improvement" that caused the problem in the first place. 5th Gen iPods worked fine.

Second, it is a valid point that Apple doesn't claim compatibility with anyone other than Apple. However, they should take into consideration that many iPods are purchased for the idea of compatibility with products such as Pioneer and other A/V manufacturers. The proof is in the posts. Many claim that they are returning their iPod Classics because they don't work with the products for which they were bought. (I bought my iPod because of my AVIC N4 not the other way around. So Apple should be thanking Pioneer for the sale.)

Finally, neither company seems to be handling the problem very well, passing the blame on each other. Whatever happened to "customer first"? Apple and Pioneer need to man-up and take responsibility. Work together and come up with a solution. At the very least, let us know if there is a plan to fix the problem so we can decide what to do with our currently useless iPods.

Would you want all this extra code built into the iPod just so someone who owns a Pioneer car stereo can use it in the way Pioneer has promised that it will work? I don.t want all that code taking up space on my iPod for something I am not using. It's plain ridiculous to think that Apple should do something like this. I hope and I am sure that Apple will NEVER do something like this, it is strictly up to Pioneer and the other electronics companies to insure their products work with an iPod.

Those companies don't appear to be doing anything about it because most likely, this support for current iPods will be built into their future models because they want you to buy their brand new model, they want more money. It's not feasible to make the model that you now have compatible with an iPod Classic.

I just bought my 6th gen 80 GB ipod for the same reason.. connecting and playing video from Pioneer Avic D3.. I called the company and was given a list of places that i could buy composite cables for it. I am going to call Pioneer after this and see what they are working on. I did ask the apple respresentative if there was a wiring change or if it was just a firmware block and he didn't know. HOW DO WE CONTACT apple to get them to fix this?
this is a huge problem for me, not being able to play videos on my stereo... that is the whole reason for my moving from 30gb 5th generation to the new one was to have more space for VIDEOS!
