In need of help badly (Pioneer Head Unit)

Hi All,

Recently got an AVIC-D3 head unit and a CD-I200 ipod cable with a 160 GB Ipod classic. I've been experiencing something weird - when listening to music it will eventually freeze the track title and duration display - ie :50/3:00 or whatever the time is, the song title and the bar all freeze. I can hit next/previous track and it changes the title, but the time still stays at the last song. This happens without fail each time I use after about 5 minutes of use. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Pioneer says it's Apple, Apple says it's Pioneer, Stereo dealer say's it's my ipod... I love fingerpointing

Compooter, Windows Vista

I have the d3 and had the same problem. I took back the classic and bought a refurbished 80 gig gen 5.5 on ebay. Its better than nothing. I heard pioneer is in the process of obtaining the licence for the chipset to make a new ipod cable. That is were the problem is. I would gladly buy a new cable, even for 100 bucks if it fixed the problem. 160 gig sure would be nice!

I got your solution:

The iPod software 1.0.2 will work fine with the Pioneer navigation system. If you updated or if your iPod has a newer version (1.0.3 or newer) it will not work at all. I had this problem too. After so much reasearch I found the solution to this problem. I have an iPod classic too and on December 07 I updated my iPod software to 1.0.3 and my iPod stopped displaying video on my Pioneer AVIC D-3 system. I had to go to the Apple store and had them backdate the software to 1.0.2 and it started working again. Now, remember DO NOT UPDATE ever again! Apple has put a block on newer software versions and there is no other way to make it work. Some say that you need an Apple connector to make it work but I found that there is no Apple made connector for the Pioneer AVIC D3 "Remember, Do not update EVER after you backdate to 1.0.2" or you'll lose your video capability and you'll have to backdate again.

Also, I was told that some Apple stores may not have the 1.0.2 software version or will not have it soon because they update their computers often and they don't keep old software versions for too long. The Apple genious that help me fond the software on an old computer they had and that is how they were able to backdate. So there is a reason why not to update and to go and get it done ASAP. GOOD LUCK!

Hi. I have read the threads for this problem and would appreciate it if someonce could advise me. I have a Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD head unit, and a 6th Generation iPod 160gb, + a cable to connetc the two together. I cannot get the video's on the iPod to play on my Pioneer unit. I believe this is bacause its a 6th generation version and the 'composite out' is different to the 5th generation and is not compatible with the Pioneer cable. Therefore, it looks like the solution is to swap it for a 80gb 5th generation iPod, which I am happy to do. HOwever, I saw another note stating that the operation firware version cannot be higher than 1.0.2.. Is this only relevant for the 6th generation versions, or is it also applicable for the 5th gen iPods too. I have sourced a 5th gen 80gb iPod, but its got version 1.2.1. and I am not sure if it will work. Can somebody please let me know asap. Thanks

I just spotted the following on the Pioneer website: -

Will the AVH-P4000DVD and the AVH-P5000DVD show video from an iPod?

Yes, you will be able to get video from your iPod through the following models, if the iPod has video capability:
AVH-P4000DVD (pg. 11 and 28) and AVH-P5000DVD (pg. 11 and 30) iPod® Control is available with the CD-I200 (iPod® interface cable) and compatible with:

iPod® 5th generation/Firmware Version 1.2.1
4th generation iPod® Version 3.1.1
3rd generation iPod® Version 2.3.0
iPod® photo Version 1.2.1
iPod® mini Version 1.4.1
iPod® nano 3rd generation Version 1.0.2
iPod® nano 2nd generation Version 1.1.3
iPod® nano 1st generation Version 1.3.1
iPod® classic Version 1.0.2
iPod® touch 1.1.1.

note:
Change the video setting on the iPod so that the iPod can output the video to an external device, before you display the video screen.
These units support only the following iPods. Supported iPod software versions are shown above. Older versions of iPod software may not be supported.
