iPhoto 7.1 won't import .CR2 (RAW) image files

My condescending answer is simple: I don't know. And again I ask, why do you think?

But I do know that RAW support is a function of the OS. Have a trip over to the Aperture forums where this fact is debated in some detail.

Now I see in iView MediaPro that there's problems to read some JPEG, PDF, Photoshop and even QuickTime files also...

I also would like to know where you got that info and under what circumstances the problems arose. I have no problem with any of those formats and iView.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

In 10.5.2 update the .CR2 RAW format is supported in iphoto 7

I'm running 10.5.2 and Image Capture 4.0 , iPhoto 7.1.2 and latest Aperture fail to pull all CR2 pictures off camera ... some times I'll get perhaps 10% ... pre download images show on apps with curious black margins on each sides of thumbnail but downloading fails.
I afraid Apple really let us down this time!

a curious note : I put different CF card in Camera and CR2 images on it downloaded perfectly ?
so I re-formated suspect CF card and then successfully used it and downloaded a just captured CR2 image.

Well, maybe apple didn't really let us down this time...

i have a Rebel Xsi (my first SLR, my first camera with RAW capabilities) and i can only read RAW in canon's app and photoshop. so there isn't a plugin that i need to download or something for preview and iphoto (7.1.3) to read/preview my RAW files? from what i've read its an OS thing?

just wanna make sure that i'm waiting for a leopard update instead of not having the right plugins and such.

That camera is so new that you're going to have to wait a little for the RAW support.

Since that post above things have changed. With Aperture 2 the RAW support may have moved back to the applications, but it's not actually clear. What is clear is the camera is so new that it's not supported on either app. It will be though, because it's going to be a very popular camera by a major maker.
