The first letter often go missing

I have been using MB Black C2d for two months.
when I type, the first letters often go missing.
I thought I just need more time to get familiar with keyboard.
Not always, but the first letters still, sometimes go missing.
I have to hit backspace few times to re-type the missing first letter or re-type whole sentence again.
It's really frustrating.

Essentially the same experience here...brand new MacBook Pro (as of Dec 1 2007) and if I wait more than a few minutes to start typing again, the first character I type isn't recognized. So strange...and annoying as all get out! This shouldn't happen after shelling out $3600 for a laptop. I cannot believe no one from Apple has responded here yet...disappointing to say the very least. I hope it is addressed soon or I guess I am taking it back.

This has been discussed at some length here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1036890&start=0&tstart=0

I have this problem and IMHO it's a software issue or usb controller type of hardware issue. I hoping Apple get it together and patch it.
I tried doing a PRAM and NVRAM reset (command alt+pr) at boot for two chimes and that has helped but not eradicated it.
Always useful posting on the Macbook (pro) feedback form to tell Apple, the more noise we make the higher the priority it will become.
I have started contacting the press in an effort to raise this problems profile.

Good luck with it, keep trying fixes, try to be specific and if something you tried worked tell us.

In my case I got my MBP about a month ago, it came with Tiger pre-loaded which I immediately upgraded to Leopard. It happens typing in to new text fields occasionally but still often enough to be v. annoying.

Cheers
Chris

I had this problem at first but now this doesn't happen very often. Didn't do anything special to fix it. One thing that may help you so you don't have to retype so much is using these two key combinations.

alt/option key and the home key on the right hand lower corner. This lets you jump to the beginning of the word so you can edit easier.

alt/option key and the end key reverses the jump. It goes to the end of each word.

If you can, I'd go to an Apple store or somewhere else that carries the MacBook and sit down and type on their's for a bit. See if it does the same thing or not. If it does, it's likely just you. If not, then I'd suspect a bad keyboard on your MacBook.

If another MacBook isn't available to you, have a friend type on yours and see what happens for them.

Good luck! I'm sure that this is a bit frustrating.

hey

I have a MB as well for about a year now and see the same 1st keystroke go missing at times. It happens randomly but mostly when i switch applications or if I have not typed in a bit. Its not very reproducible.

If you goto system pref -> universal access -> keyboard then choose to shorten the acceptance delay to 'quick' it seems to have gotten better. I have been testing it for only an hour but it seems ok. Ill keep trying. if nothing else its another option for people to try.

I have had this problem for a year and just thought it was me or normal. I recently upgraded to leopard and it still happens so im hoping this fix works.

Hej to all of you!

I got my MacBook in the beginning of July 2007. A long time I didn't realized that there is a real problem with my keyboard. I often have the problem when I want to type big letters. I thought, maybe I write too fast and don't press the shift button correctly. Very often I have to delete and type again.

But to write big letters is not the only problem, the keyboard often doesn't count the first letter when I write something into safari, pages or other programs. I put my whole attention on the thing to find out a special case.

Here it is: It matters approximately 90 percent for sure when I fill in e.g a dictionary web page get a vocable and go on reading 2-3 minutes and want to type in the next word. Then the first letter is nearly always missing.

Hope someone how is responsible for reads my entry.

Wow! And i thought it was just me.... I have just bought this macbook and have exactly the same problem. It's extremely annoying. It's like having a wireless keyboard and the batteries are going or something, it doing it to me now as i type. Certain keys seem worse, "n" seems to be a constant offender. As mentioned above, I thought I was just getting used to the new keyboard, but obviously not the case. I hope this has a software remedy....

Hmm this is why I think it's either a software or usb controller / driver issue. If it was a straight forward hardware issue then the keyboard would miss letters typed all of the time as its basically just a bunch of switches. I'd be interested to hear if this happens with an external (bluetooth or usb (uses a separate usb controller to the one the internal keyboard uses)

Anybody????

hey to all of you,

I too have the problem and I was watching the MacBookPro-Threat "ELP! - first letter always missing!..." for a very long time which was handling the same problem as the threat here but for the MBP. In the threat named before this problem was posted by over 600 MBP-users, maybe that was the reason why the threat was deleted on the 21st, december 2007 by Apple and nobody can read anything about this really long problem (first post: may 2007) anymore. I'm totally disappointed of Apple to delete silently such a big threat.

In my case the problem increases more and more on my MacBook(june 2007), the problem now appears also during writing and not only after switching back into an inactive window, like often before it happens e.g. during surfing with safari change musik in iTunes and go back.

My next hopes are that Apple does not delete this threat here and that 10.5.2 will bring a solution to this long known problem.

Short tipp to get all posts even if Apple deletes one of them, subscript to get the posts by email.
