Ipod Classic 1.0.1 firmware found on apples site. how can we now downgrade

I still have my "original" 1.0.1 Firmware file in that folder, along with the dreaded 1.0.2 file. The question is how to get iTunes to revert back to it from 1.0.2?

I was able to revert back to 1.0.1 by deleting the 1.0.2 file in the folder and NOT allow Restore to check online for updates. I'm disabling automatic upgrades!

I just sent them off to you - but it's a large file (over 55mb) so I don't know if your ISP will allow large files...

I have the 1.0.1 firmware file but not the signature file. I presume the firmware file won't work without the presence of the signature file as well? Any chance you could send me this? I have been having all sorts of problems with a continual reset loop - long story.

I am desperate to give 1.0.1 a try - 1.0.2 is a nightmare.

This signature file is also on the same Apple web site. Simply put .signature at the end of the url above and it will download.

Thanks for posting this. My 80GB classic is now working fine on 1.0.1. Pretty much 1.0.2 had destroyed my iPOD. I couldn't hardly do anything. Videos would not work at all. Funny that everything works fine under 1.0.1.

It is strange LJay. We all have the same iPod, use the same firmware, play the same kind of media files, yet are having hugely different experiences. I had no issues under 1.0.1, yet with 1.0.2, which was supposed to be an improvement, my battery would drain when the HD decided to just stay on sometimes, even when the iPod was turned off! Hopefully the next update will actually be better. At least if it's not, it's not hard to go back.

I am in Italy and I had the same problem with my 160GB Classic. It started rebooting and clicking from the Apple logo without stopping once I loaded videos on it (no problems with music, podcasts or photos). I tried to restore it but it kept on installing the firmware update 1.0.2. I found out that the old firmware was still on my iMac under "Mackintosh HD/Users/USERNAME (that's the name of the Mac user - mine is Andrea - it has the little house icon)/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates. After opening that folder I deleted the following files: iPod_24.1.0.2.ipsw and iPod_24.1.0.2.ipsw.signature. I also disabled the autoupdate function in iTunes. Everything's back to normal now. DON'T UPDATE YOUR IPOD'S FIRMWARE TO 1.0.2.

Great guys! I done it! I was having a lot of problems with the update 1.0.2 my ipod's battery was drainng when not in use, and many more problems.

This is how i done it: instead of downloading again from the link i searched in my computer for '' *.ipsw '' in the search box, and then i cut and paste (the 2 files) update 1.0.2 from there to my desktop, and then i disabled the check for updates and tried to restore the ipod software.

All done, easy, thanks a lot !!!!!!!! i hope it works now!

Guys, I need help here.

I don't seem to be able to revert back to 1.0.1. I've deleted the 1.0.2 update from my library/itunes/ipod software updates folder and put the 1.0.1 back into that folder but my itunes still shows software version 1.0.2 when i connect my ipod.

When I click restore, it prompts me to check for updates and doesn't give me the option to use an older version. It will automatically search for the latest software and starts downloading.

I tried to trash my itunes 7.4.2 and reload 7.2 but i get a message that says i need to use 7.4 for my ipod classic. Argh! I'm almost giving up hope on this.

Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.

hyl, one small thing you still need to do.

Go into iTunes preferences. In 'General' uncheck 'automatically check for updates' at the bottom. Now try again.
