Airport Extreme keeps freezing

Dear friends,

I have an Airport Extreme (Gigabit) configured as 802.11n (b/g compatible) and an external USB HD connected.

At least, once every day, the Airport "freezes". I loose connection to the base station (internet connection and HD), even loose connection to reconfigure the base. The only way out is to reboot Airport Extreme.

I tried change the configuration to different encryption and frequencys, but the problem persists.

Does anyone have the same issue? Any ideia of how to solve it?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, i have leopard...and when i try to downgrade, i dont have the 7.2.0 firmware. I have the gigabit version, it worked fine for like 4 weeks. then its been downright annoying. every computer here loses the connection, everything stops, including my ps3 and 360. so ive read a lot of forums here on the apple website and others, they all say that i should downgrade to 7.2.0....but i cant find the firmware file anywhere...any idea where i can find it? i checked out version tracker already...ill really appreciate the help 🙂

Trust me, it is not just AirDisk related. I bought an AEBSn back in December. All I have hooked up to it is a Mac Mini (on 24/7) via ethernet, a USB printer and then connect wireless using my iPhone and PowerBook G4. It worked great for 2 weeks. Then I took a vacation for two weeks and unplugged it while I was gone. Since I have been back and plugged it back in, it freezes multiple times a day. The green light stays on, but the AEBS is gone. When it does it, it is not discoverable from an Airport Utility scan. The only thing that works is for me to unplug it and then plug it back in. Modem is a Motorola SurfBoard 5120. But I don't need to reset the modem, only the router. I thought it was bittorrent related, I figured perhaps it was freaking out from too many port requests or something (which it shouldn't do anyways), but tested and with or without bittorrent it makes no difference. Printer on/printer off, makes no difference. I guess I am going to try downgrading the firmware and see if that helps.

This is extremely irritating and makes me ****** at Apple and Apple quality control. At this point should I mention that the iPhone I bought 5 days days ago had to be replaced after 3 days because the touch screen just stopped working? And don't get me started with the "customer service" I recieved at my Apple store. Uggh. After purchasing over my lifetime an Apple IIe, a first gen Mac, a Mac II, a PowerBook G4, an Airport Express, 4 iPods, an AEBS and an iPhone, I am going to say at this point that I would really need to be convinced to spend another dime on Apple products. The mini underperforms, 3 iPods had serious problems within months of buying them, the iPhone has been replaced after 3 days and if it still was not within the 14 day window, the AEBS would be going back too (funny how it worked fine for two weeks). I wonder if Steve Jobs has ever heard of Six Sigma? They need to discover some serious quality control, because the Apple name is not worth much to me now and this is coming from someone who has been a loyal Apple user for a long, long, time. The Apple premium is now totally worthless. Unless you just want to have an expensive piece of stationary art.

Downgrading to 7.1.1 worked. The AEBSn doesn't freeze up anymore requiring the unplug routine. Now however it has a new routine. It will go offline briefly (at about once a day or so) and then will effectively reboot on its own. The indicator will go solid amber, the modem will not show that anything is plugged into it. But after a few seconds, it will start flashing amber, the modem will indicate that a device is present and the connection will come back. It is frustrating that it will not work completely, but this is better than the alternative of manual intervention.
