"An Error occurred while uploading one of your files. Check network..."

First lets clarify that I have used my account before to order a card and it worked fine.

Now I have made a book and i am trying to order it.
After I click Order, first it is assembled
Then it starts getting transfered.
Then at 4,8MB out of 22MB it gets stuck and after a while I get a message saying:
"An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click retry to resend your file"

This has happened four times and of course I know there is no problem with my network connection.

Any ideas anybody?
Please?

Hi,

I too am consistently getting this same error, despite 20+ attempts to upload by calendars. I've verified my broadband Internet connection is working correctly. My calendar size is 23MB and it stalls before 1MB is uploaded, and usually at 0MB. I've emailed Apple Support 2 days ago, but no response.

I'm wondering if most people (or anyone) is still seeing this problem, or if it may be something to do with my iPhoto installation. This is getting urgent, as Christmas is near!

Thanks,

Tim

I attempted to get help from Apple support but received a generic unhelpful reply. I searched these discussions and found no clear explanation of the problem of uploading calendars or photo books from iPhoto. It is not clear why some people have difficulty in the upload and others do not. As I noted above I finally gave up and and took my business elsewhere.

I put in a second order for 4 photo books and that order also uploaded smoothly. I have received confirmation emails for both orders from Apple. In early December I was unable to upload any orders for either photo books or calendars even after numerous attempts over a period of several weeks.

From my perspective the uploading/ordering process is working fine.

I was having exactly the same issue : transfert begins normally, then hangs (at 2,70 MB) and iPhoto eventually gives up with a message indicating a network error.

Having read the post below, I thought it was a "server side" problem.

Nevertheless, using the network utilty of OS X, I had a look at what's happening during the book's tranfert. The network connection is made from my Mac to a machine called "idisk.mac.com".
First thing : we are dealing with Apple (at least "mac.com", wich I suppose is Apple somewhere 🙂 ) and not Kodak servers. This made me thing that the network problem could be on my side, even if everything seemed to work perfectly.

I then had a look at my router configuration (Netgear ADSL/wireless router DG834PN). In the firewall section, I noticed an option "block IM ports" wich was checked. Looking at the router's log, I then saw entries like this one :

Fri, 2008-01-04 21:41:37 - TCP Packet - Source:192.168.0.21,50232 Destination:idisk.mac.com,80 - [BLOCK]

indicating that the transfert failure was clearly due to the (unexpected and unwanted) firewall activity.

I can not explain why this is happening now. I had -like others in this thread- already ordered books from iPhoto without any problems.

I can just tell you that, since I have unchecked the "block IM ports", I have been able to order my books in just one click, as usual.

So, my advice if you encounter the same problem is : check wether a firewall is not blocking some trafic somewhere on your home network.

Regards,

PhC.

I love my iMac; and for the most part, I love all my Apple software... but I just started .mac, and so far, I can't stand it. I feel like I'm using a PC again. Especially this frustrating issue of uploading photos either through Web Gallery or .mac slides-- neither one work. I get about halfway through an upload before I get the error message. I'm about one day from simply giving up and canceling the service.

Try deleting the preference files for both iTunes and iPhoto. The will be recreated the next time you launch the application and you'll have to reset the various user preferences for those application.

User uploaded file

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I was finally successful in ordering a calendar! I have been trying for over 3 weeks and kept getting the "check network" message. I tried ordering in off=peak hours; checked my firewall settings; checked with my ISP - with no luck.

My next step would have been to contact the help desk. So I decided to do it during the Super Bowl when I thought web traffic and phone calls would be low in number. I tried the calendar upload one more time and viola! it went through.

I don't know what the lesson learned is here, but something made it work.

I have ordered many iPhoto albums without difficulty until I upgraded in late November to Leopard and iPhoto'08. SInce then I have tried multiple times to upload albums and always get "An error occurred while uploading one of your files" after several 100 kb of a 13 - 16 mb file has been uploaded. Finally we checked the console.app and it appeared that an old TechToolsPro program was interferring. Deleted that program today; reinstalled download of OS10.5.1; and reinstalled iLife '08 from the disk. After repairing permissions (still get the one "SUID file modified but not repaired" warning -- which apparently is no problem, according to Apple) and verifying the HD as ok, still get the same error message when uploading an album. Now the console.app says: "com.apple.launcd[108] ([0x0-0x28028] .com.apple.iPhoto[455]) Exited abnormality: Segmentation fault" Then several minutes later [about when the error message showed up on the iMac] console log shows: "iPhoto[461] ISCoordinator response FromUploadFiles: error..."
Have not tried Apple Care phone support, but have had various email contacts with Apple support -- tried all of their suggestions with no resolution of the problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Bill:

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's a long shot but try this: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Otherwise consider the following:

Do you have another account on your Mac? If so copy the library to it via the Shared folder, put it in the other account's Pictures folder. Then download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. This will make sure the new account is the owner of the library and all files inside. If you don't have an account it's a good troubleshooting tool to have. It should be a non-administrative account with no 3rd party add-ons.

If you can successfully order from that account then your primary account is the culprit. Post back with the results and we can go from there to try to find a fix for your next upload.
