my iPod keeps ejecting and connecting to Itunes

I solved this by restoreing my iPod. If you want to try this, make sure you have all your music and videos and anything else saved on your computer first.

My iPod would eject in the middle of syncing lots of songs. I would resync and it would do it again and again. Restore solved this and I was able to sync up 5000 songs and videos without it stopping again.

I've got the iPod Classic 80GB... Bought it 20 days ago. My problem started with the iPod freezing up during play back of various songs while in the shuffle mode. How odd, I thought, so I tried removing some songs, making sure they were all AAC format, etc. But it still froze up. So, this weekend, I tried resetting, restoring, those 5 r's that Apple says work, but nothing has worked. I called support, they said try reassigning a drive letter to the iPod and/or reloading the main USB driver on the machine. That didn't work either!

Good luck with getting yours reset/restored, reloaded! I've uninstalled, reinstalled, wiped, etc. and have only succeeded in driving myself nuts. I'm not sure if its due to the 1.0.2 iPod upgrade or what, but I do know I'm tired of it not working.

If you find something that works, please post it here for the rest of us that are struggling. I really like my iPod, but if it won't do what it's supposed to do, I'm going to switch to a different music player...

I'm having similar issues, but I have noticed that the ejection occurs when I move the iPod while it is connected. All I have to do is pick it up and it immediately starts ejecting. Then I set it back down and it will try to reconnect and sometimes is successful, sometimes isn't. It happens with different connection cables on different computers, so I know it's the Ipod itself.

Does this happen with you?

my new ipod 80gb is the same, its 3 days old, also updating it in itunes is ssssoooooo slow! I had a ipod video(5.5) before running on XP and it was so much quicker. I dont even have to touch my new classic and it ejects its self. HELP!

My Ipod is the same, i just bought the new ipod classic yesterday and when i connect it to the computer, it ejects it almost stright away. i did everything (removing itunes, reinstalling it ect..)i managed to sync it one, and even then it cut out in the middle, saying a certin file could not be found. i tried repairing itunes and it still ejects when ever i connect it. at least its not just my ipod.

I'm having these very same problems with a 160 GB iPod classic with the additional symptoms that sometimes I cannot connect the iPod to my computer at all. I think the problem is a bad dock connector on the iPod as I have a 5G 80GB iPod that works just fine.

I'll be making a trip to the Apple Store to return my iPod/receive warranty service. Drag.

Try this,
Go to the summary page for your ipod on itunes. Make sure the options to ENABLE DISK USE and MANUALLY MANAGE MUSIC AND VIDEOS are both ticked.
That sorted mine out.

Same problem here, flakey connection. Tried cable from nano worked fine. Phoned apple new cable received in 2 days, problem fixed so far.

I have got the same problem. when I touch my 80g ipod classic it disconnects. the only answer I have come up with is DON'T TOUCH IT. Unfortunatly I purchased mine over net n ingraved so I'm not willing to return it if this is the only problem it has due to the fact that a lot of people on this site have a lot worse problems than me and I don't want to risk getting a dud. Hi, i have the same problem where my 80 gb ipod keeps ejecting itself. You said to manually manage it- how can I do this if it ejects itself seconds after connection??

Hi same problem. I have a 80gig classic only 3 days old. (my first iPod and I love it)
My iPod keeps ejecting itself then re-syncing from what I can make out its a bad connection...... maybe. Not sure if its in the cable or the iPod itself. I'm going to take it back to JB hifi in Melb and see what they say. My son has a Gen3 iPod so I am use to the connection and it hasn't been forced. (I'm a Copier/Computer tech and deal with much more fragile connectors every day)If getting a dock will solve the issue then i might do that.

Tried it on my desktop and laptop PC same thing.

Any suggestions? The DONT MOVE IT suggestion by MADMACCA does work but i dont want it to drop out completely

Seems like apple may have an issue here going by the number of people having the same issue.

Apart from the connection issue it works great Bugger all lag plays all the movies and music etc I want and has the backup of all my photos all 29gig of them over 21000 files and sounds great to boot 🙂

Just tried my sons cable that came with his G3 iPod and it does the same thing so in my case its not the cable.

With the iPod set up forced "Disk Mode" it it still does it.

The iPod continues to charge tho so that would indicate that the problem is in one of the data lines and the power one lines are staying connected.
Also when you pick up or move the iPod it will sometimes disconnect.

I finally got the solution. I connected the Ipod's cable in the back of the PC where it has some USB that I read go through PCI to the motherard instead of the front USB which goes directly to it. I don't know how this messes the connection but when connected in the rear it does not disconnect anymore. I hope this helps everyone wih this problem. Regards,

I'm so glad I found this thread. Just got a black iPod classic 80G. I didn't have any connectivity problems for the first few days but now it connects intermittently. I have completely confirmed that it is an issue with the cable's plug making good contact in the iPod connector. I say "confirmed" because I can repeatedly insert the plug applying light downward pressure so the the plug rises up internally (this is with iPod facing up) and I connect every time, no problem.

I was hoping it was a USB port problem since I've read some ports can provide the required power and some cannot. When I first tried a USB port on back of my PC, it worked but as soon as I moved the iPod I lost connection. I then tested holding it at a slight angle again and voila, it repeatedly worked.

I am convinced that this is a hardware problem. Either the the plug on the cable is defective or the connector inside the iPod is defective. I am going to try calling Apple and direct them to my post and see what they say. I could take it back to Abt where I bought it but I am not convinced they'll resolve the issue. I'd hate to exchange it for one that has the same problem.

Hopefully anyone out there with a iPod Classic found this useful. I'll reply with what I find out after talking with Apple.

I have the same problem but I have a laptop and all my ports go directly to the motherboard, So that solution doesn't work for me.
