my iPod keeps ejecting and connecting to Itunes

I've had exactly the same issue; new 80GB iPod classic; connects, shows briefly in the system tray and then disconnects.

It was one of two things that I did at the same time that solved it:
1) In iTunes, selected Edit / Preferences / and then checked the "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods"
2) Pushed the cable in firmly to the bottom of the iPod and wiggled it a bit

As it's been working fine with my other computer I think it's the software issue rather than hardware; though it could have been the cable.

I had this exact same problem recently. I found also, that pulling the cable slightly away from the iPod once connected (ie - slightly pulling the cable out without actually releasing the holding pins, making the cable going tight, rather than applying the downward pressure) also gives a continual aliviates the problem and gives a continual connection.

However, since purchasing a brand new Apple usb cable (one that came with the Apple plug socket power supply) I have not yet had a recurrance of this problem... meaning it is probably a dodgy cable rather than iPod socket.

I advise you try a different cable in a different USB socket.

i used brs's solution. i enabled disk use from the summary page. i havent had a problem since, though mine ejected after a 30 seconds or so, so i had time to do it.

I just read this thread after having the same problem, and the stuff about a faulty cable seemed to make a lot of sense. I was using this cheap and apparently crappy 4 port usb hub, and once I plugged my ipod into the usb port on the computer directly, it worked fine. What a relief!

Just come on here about the same problem with my ipod and the problem was the same as above, tried plugging it into the cheap usb hub i bought, once plugged directly into pc worked fine
