Hard drive not recognised

Hi,
Just recieved my new copy of leopard in the post today. I began the installation process but much to my dismay when asked to select a volume to install to, my hard disk did not appear at all. I tried restarting but it still did not appear. (I can still boot up tiger fine). I tried disk utility but nothing happened (no verify or repair occured). Please help!!

Same experience as many here. Installer CD wouldn't find the hard drive; the device showed up in disk utility, but wouldn't mount... Then suddenly it appeared.

I've installed Leopard on 3 machines so far today, and that's the only one I've had troubles with.

I had this problem too. What I did was pick up my MacBook, tilt it a little bit toward me, and the DVD sounded like it spun a little differently, but my drive showed up grayed-out. Then I went back one screen, then forward, and clicked on the drive a few times. After a few seconds it came alive!

Same thing appens to me but after reading all the post look at my iBook and the drive was there ready to install

The first time I tried installing Leopard, it recognized my internal HD (iMac 24") and external FW800 HD. It gave me an 'unknown error' when I tried installing and I rebooted to find neither of the HD showing up in the installation menu. Waiting it out like you guy s reccomended...but man...not impressed by Apple right now.

Hmm, just had the same thing on my Mac Pro. It is utterly ridiculous that there is no indication (not even a little spinning dashes thing) that anything is happening while this is going on. It simply looks as if the installer has failed to find your system disc, and you're stuck.

Just want to add my name to the list... After about 5 minutes
my main hard drive appeared. So glad this thread was around,
otherwise I would never wait.

I've got to add my comp to the list. 2.2 MacBook Pro won't show a disk to install to. Thank goodness for these forums, or I would have given up. Here's hoping I don't have the 20min wait.

well that didn't go too badly. 7mins to do the recognise hard drive thing and then a 50min installation, and all seems well. Thanks guys for helping out, I was worried there.

I ran the Disk repair utility, and was able to install the osx v5 successfully. Thank you.
