Problems with IMAP

Hello.
After Leopard clean install, Mail.app does not download any message from my IMAP server.
It downloads only folders, shows nothing inside.
Worked very well in tiger, works well in any other mail client under windows or OSX.

Mail server is on windows server2003, i dunno what program is used for mail server.

Connection doctor shows no problems.
Getting account info, it lists all my folders and shows they correct size, clicking on folder and "show messages" opens new window with no messages.

Having about 1,2GB and 50 folders, 5k+ emails.

24" iMac, Mac OS X (10.5)

FYI... I got through to Level 2 support on this issue and they are aware of it now. He couldn't offer me a time table but we did replicate it from an upgrade of an existing OS and existing IMAP mail account as well as from creating a new user account and then creating a fresh IMAP account. Anybody having this issue with a server other than Alt-N's mDaemon?

In the meantime, use Mozilla Thunderbird. That's what I'm doing.

I'm having the same problem with Apple Mail 3 and MDaemon 8.1.1. No messages, just folders. Old mail showed up, but when I recreated the account, no mail shows up. Creating the account took 15 minutes or more due to extreme waiting period accessing outgoing/incoming mail server (usually takes seconds).

I downloaded, installed and set up Thunderbird in a fraction of the time it took just to connect to the outgoing mailserver. Oh, and it works--Just got my first spam message of the day!

BTW: I was using Mailtags (it was made inactive by mail the first time it was opened). This plugin effects IMAP mail headers so it might be related. Anyone else using Mailtags?

NG...

I created a fresh brand new user account on the mail server. Sent myself one text message to the new address and still have the exact same problem.

Can't blame MailTags.

In Tiger, I seem to remember the address/server verification step in creating an account taking a bit longer than I would expect. Maybe now, its just exacerbated with Leopard.

I also tried different authentication methods.... no good either.

All, I had the same problems this afternoon. If you go into mail preferences and completely reset your account it will resolve the problem. You won't lose emails as they are stored on the servers and they eventually come back to your email accounts. It only took mine a minute or two to forward. I did perform a complete backup of my email before I reset my account just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps and good luck.

John,

In the case of an AOL account, if you create a New Mailbox, say named Deleted Messages in the Saved folder of AOL, and once it is create, open it, click on Mailbox in the menubar, then Use This Mailbox for and choose Trash, it will move to be under the Trash, and deletion will be successful.

The reason it must done this way, is that AOL limits all messages other than those in the Saved folder to be temporary (27 days limit to be exact). Creating a folder on the AOL server must be done through the Saved folder.

I'm seeing something very similar: all of my accounts show an exclamation point and a message that they are unable to log in. Attempting to log in the account does not work, but I do get an interesting message in the console log:

*28-10-07 0:08:12 Mail[1264] no entry for mailbox id 20 in the cache; this should never happen*

Has anybody else seen this error (or something similar) in the logs?

Hi,

Similar problems here.

On 10.4 it was all working - 3 apple machines with Mail 2.0 (with various plugins), plus web access.

My environment is:
Host - linux Suse
Mail system - Postfix (virtual address i.e. like an ISP)
imap/pop3 server - Dovecot
Webmail from - Squirrel mail

Like many of you I have reinstalled, reconfigured, tested ... etc.

My issues are:
1. Without Mail.app 3 running - mail arrives and is processed by Postfix and can be seen in Squirrel mail with is good, as soon as I run up any Mail.app 3 the mail disappears. If mail is running the mail is never seen and is lost!
2. I have had the same problem with the folder structure being received but no contents - I have found this inconsistent (sometimes it does / other times not)
3. I cannot get the mail notification sound to work on imap - works fine on pop3!

I was just about to investigate returning to Mail 2.0 but reading below does not look hopeful.

It's a disaster and I may have to return all machines to 10.4, I cannot believe how bad this is and feel I must have got something wrong.

Any thoughts or comments very welcome.

It seems to me that the problem is that Mail 3 doesn't create any references (local files in ~/Library/Mail) to messages received from the email server. If I move a message from another account on a working configuration into a folder on my account running MDaemon the message appears both in Mail 3 and when checking the same account in Mail 2.

Also there seems to be no errors on the serverside when getting messages. I've checked the session-logs on my server and they indicate that messages are in fact beeing requested and sent back to the client.
