Problems with IMAP

Hello.
After Leopard clean install, Mail.app does not download any message from my IMAP server.
It downloads only folders, shows nothing inside.
Worked very well in tiger, works well in any other mail client under windows or OSX.

Mail server is on windows server2003, i dunno what program is used for mail server.

Connection doctor shows no problems.
Getting account info, it lists all my folders and shows they correct size, clicking on folder and "show messages" opens new window with no messages.

Having about 1,2GB and 50 folders, 5k+ emails.

I am having the same "sort" of problems with 10.5.1 and IMAP. Sometimes it checks just fine but most of the time it gives me the "timed out" issue none of which was a problem in 10.4.

I have tried to delete and re-add accounts. I have tried to rename Mail to Mailx and it just fails on the new one.

So far this has been a clusterf*ck.

I have the exact same problem as some other users here in this topic. My mailserver is running debian stable (etch) with the default dovecot installation (1.0.rc15) combined with postfix. Connecting via IMAP(S) I can read mails in my INBOX, check for new mails, send mails etc. but can not see the contents of any subfolder. My webmailer (roundcube) displays all the messages in all subfolders (also connects via IMAP(S)), so this is defenitely a bug related to Apple Mail. Under a Windows enviroment, Thunderbird, Outlook etc. all smoothly connect to my mailserver without any problems.

Has there been any update on this issue?

I have several IMAP accounts on a MailEnable Pro 3 Mail Sever, on a W2003 box. Every other email client syncs with my IMAP folders without problem but Mail v3 is very flakey.

It will download new emails but my folders are either mostly empty, or a random selection of emails download sometimes they are downloaded multiple times.

This is very tiresome.

An oddity with my new iMac - just upgrade to 10.5.1

At first Mail would not connect at all; Adium for MSN was similar. Safari was fine and I could get and send mail fine that way. My provider's realtime status page www.fusestatus.com showed, and still does, all services running stable.

Now Adium is 100% OK and so it my SMTP connection. IMAP is intermittent, though the settings for both were copied from my iBook by Migration Assistant. It is my impression that when Mail 3 on my iMac does reconnect itself - always with no change in settings - it is after a random period when I had opened my iBook; Mail 2.1 on it still connects with no problems and it is using the same Wifi router.

The log that Mail 3 now shows never mentions IMAP errors as it only mentions IMAP once it connects. The Network diagnostics button is always greyed out in Mail Connection Doctor. If I click Network in System Prefs it quits 100% of the time, or did until I went to 10.5.1.

Yesterday it was OK all day, this morning it took about 90 mins to connect itself, about an hour after I had been connected on my iBook.

Cheers, Colin

It's a Halloween miracle! I guess it is the time of year when Voodoo actually works. I "only" had to do the following to get things working:

(Just to test, I selected Rebuild from the Mailbox menu first, then...)

1. I quit Mail 3.0. I then renamed the Mail folder to Mailx in the Users/Library folder.
2. I then started Mail 3.0 to see if doing that would fix the problem. I believe I selected rebuild, but nothing really happened (rebuild was grayed out, inactive).
3. I then quit Mail 3.0 and started it again.

All of a sudden, I started getting messages. It seems to have worked!!!!

Thanks so much for this!! (using older version of MDaemon)

I'd like to confirm that this hack worked for me. I'm using Leopard OS 10.5.1 and my imap server is MDaemon 5 on an old Win 2000 AS.
