Problems in waking from sleep

I have installed Leopard without any problem, but I have noticed a problem that recurred twice: my MBP no waking up from sleep when one or more firewire HDs are attached.

Is anyone having the same issue and is there a fix?

MBP2.4GHz, Mac OS X (10.5)

Same here. Fresh install on a G5. When i put the computer to sleep, twice now the screens stay dark, keyboard/mouse won't work (even if plugging into tower), and all the fans kick on. Next step is to hold down power to restart -- btw, how well does OSX handle sudden reboots (ie crashes) like this? Unless there's unsaved work, does it really cause any problems, mess up file permissions, leave big chunks of app caches around (like Windows used to)..?

My MacBook Pro just got my very first kernel panic upon waking from sleep in Leopard. 😟 Looks like waking from sleep with peripherals attached may need some tweaking. Here's the log, in case someone can parse what caused it:

Since last posting I have reinstalled the OS as a clean install and have the same issues with sleep and have another observation.
I cannot sleep logged in and if I logout and sleep from there, it begins to wake but then freezes with a constant beach ball until doing a hard quit. I really hope theres a fix some time soon and wonder how this possibly got past beta testing.

Greetings,

In addition to all the problems getting past the Other user problem and finally getting to the desktop, and after moving all my user data and applications from the archived folders, now when my computer has been sleeping for awhile it wakes up badly.

I have no problems if I put it to sleep and wake it up again right away, but if I let it fall asleep on its own and come back 20 minutes later, on wakeup I see a blue screen looking sorta like a letterboxed film. I have to pull the plug to restart.

This is the most pathetic OS upgrade process ever.

Having the same problem with my mac pro with no external HD's attached. I have sense gone and bought a new external HD and ran Time Machine. Yay!

Here is the paste from the crash log if it helps get this situation solved... quite annoying.

An opaque black screen drops down telling me I have to manually restart. Has happened every time since upgrading and waking my computer from sleep mode. I have sent many reports 🙂.

The shut down process is taking longer than normal as well.

any solutions out there yet?

Oct 28, 2007 5:43 PM in response to Kane D'Ebano

similar experience to what others are posting regarding waking from sleep. I strongly recommend telling Apple directly:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html/

This has turned into a terrible upgrade for me (and others, as they have written) we need to let Apple know specifically what is going wrong. They have a lot of work ahead of them to fix all of the issues people are reporting with Leopard, and the more they know, the better it will be for everyone.

Sincerely,

Russ Conte

Apple doesn't respond in the threads: this is a user-to-user forum. Be sure to report the problem via Apple's official feedback mechanism, though, at:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/

Apple doesn't respond to that forum either.. "We read all feedback carefully, but please note that we cannot respond to the comments you submit."

I am sure someone from Apple must check these boards.. either way, anyone found a solution yet? I tested overnight letting my computer fall asleep, and yet again, it asked me kindly to reboot.

Anyone find a solution or the cause of this problem?

Right, I never suggested Apple would respond to you directly. That's just a feedback form for reporting problems to them.

Unfortunately if you want tech support direct from Apple after the first 90 days of owning a new Mac, you have to pay for AppleCare. 😟

Oct 29, 2007 6:15 PM in response to Eric Westby

Oh yeah, I forgot I have Applecare..lol. Good call! I called them, opened a case, and told them what was happening. They gave me a quick way to correct it. Before posting it, I'll test it to make sure it works. If it does, I'll post the fix in the morning in this thread after it's had time to sit (it wakes fine after only sleeping a few minutes).
