Problems in waking from sleep

I have installed Leopard without any problem, but I have noticed a problem that recurred twice: my MBP no waking up from sleep when one or more firewire HDs are attached.

Is anyone having the same issue and is there a fix?

MBP2.4GHz, Mac OS X (10.5)

I've got the same issues too. upgrade install on macbook pro was easy and uneventful but over the last couple days I've noticed this issue with my macbook waking from sleep. It only happens about 50% of the time though. I'll put it to sleep closing the lid and then when I come back and open the lid the screen will stay off for up to a full 60 seconds or more. When the screen finally comes on, the trackpad will be extremely slow or unresponsive.

Also I get a message from airport saying that it can't find my preferred network and asks if I want to join a different one, which happens to be my preferred network! Does anyone else have this airport problem too? I hope this issue is fixed soon, I use sleep all the time!

Okay, Apple's fix worked for me; my MacPro is now sleeping and waking normally. This only takes a minute:

1. Power off mac, unlplug for 20 seconds to clear buffers, etc.
2. boot up, login, open Finder, browse to Macintosh HD, Library, Preferences, and find and drag "com.apple.PowerManagement.plist" out to your desktop (you can delete this later, or archive it somewhere).
3. Reboot.

Nice! Can't wait to get home from work to try this. Anyone else confirm the fix?

Thanks Sonicjay, I'll post my (fingers crossed) success story later this evening. Wish I didn't have work today... or any day for that matter. 🙂

Thanks for the post, Sonicjay. I installed Leopard last night and still can't successfully wake up from sleep...kernel panic every time. The Login/Keychain update only seemed to make things worse. I'll drop a line once I try the fix tonight.

My Awake from sleep is a little different then the rest and removing the power management.plist did not solve my problem.

Upon a hard (deep sleep) with the pulsating power light, my computer wakes up to my desktop and what ever applications i have open. Then a second later, it flashes to a blue screen, and then fades into the desktop slowly, and then flashes back to a blue screen. I can slowly move my mouse across the monitor, and click on objects. The only way to get this to stop is a hard force reboot by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.

I have a dual core 2 intel with 2 Gbs RAM. Invidia GeForce 7300GT with a 20" cinema display. 1680 x 1050 resolution.

The fix that was posted worked for me - with two modifications...

1) my 'com.apple.PowerManagement.plist' was located in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/, not in /Library/Preferences/

2) I also found it helpful to remove 'com.apple.AutoWake.plist', also in SystemConfiguration/. This file will be replaced automatically upon rebooting, but I believe that it is replaced with an updated version (whether it is based on the lack of 'com.apple.PowerManagement.plist' or just rebuilt by Leopard, I am not sure...)

I thought that there could be many reasons for this bizarre issue - 2 displays where resolution1 != resolution2; a TVMax attached; 3 internal HD where size1 != size2 != size3; an external HD attached via USB; an odd personal network with 3 computers with 3 different OSs, a network printer, and a networked HD - but this fix looks like it solved the problem!

*Thanks everyone (esp. Sonicjay)*

P.S. - I am posting this msg in some other forums which I have been lurking on - will link back to this thread...

ok so I tried it and I'll see if it works... I found the com.apple.powermanagement file in library/preferences/system configuration folder as well. Did not find any file for com.apple.autowake??? Also, when I moved it to the desktop it looked like it just made a copy of the file on the desktop and the plist file stayed in the system configuration folder? Did it automatically create a new one when I tried to move it? I just kept the "copy" on my desktop and deleted it out of system configuration folder. When I rebooted it did not make another copy of it in the library/preferences/system config folder. It just wasn't there. I tried putting it to sleep. I came back a half hour later and it woke up perfectly. Is there anything I should be concerned about with the missing plist file?

I turned off the sleep function, and screen saver on my main G5 HD running 10.4. The problem is from booting from the sys DVD. Apple didn't turn it off, what a pain, I had to reboot and run install twice, and sit there and prevent it from sleeping. I could NOT get it out of sleep. All freeze up. What is Apple thinking? Not much I think. Did U get a solution outside of watching it.
