HPIO Trap Monitor

I keep getting a popup message that says, "The application HPIO Trap Monitor quit unexpectedly. "Mac OS X and other applications are not affected." I can't close it out. Should I delete this dialog from Finder to get rid of it? I don't want to delete my printer software by accident.

I went into the path Library/printers/hp/HPIO/hpio trap monitor.app/ ( think this is it but to be sure follow the path they give in the report to apple that pops up for you to send to apple and I found the file *HP Trap Monitor* and moved it to my desktop. My printer works and the message doesn't pop up anymore. I don't know what's gonna happen with the printer I don't know till I talk to HP tech, BUT this did work for me.

I got it to work on my Leopart iMac and macbook. I uninstalled the HP software using it's own uninstall option (in the printer utility software). Then I loaded the Leopard CD, double-clicked "Optional Installs", Chose the HP Drivers on the options of things to install, and installed them. Then, I went to printers in System Preferences, added the C7280, and chose the HP Photosmart C7200 series driver from the list of optional drivers. From there, I could print (but couldn't scan because the HP software was uninstalled). Then, I reinstalled the HP printer software, and everything works. HA!!!!!

I had the HPIO window opening at startup in tiger.

This was the process I used to correct it then and I have used it just now with leopard after an upgrade and it seems to be working so far.

"For those of you who are still having problems getting rid of that pesky "HP Trap Monitor" folder window at starup even after installing the newest version of driver software, I've called HP tech support (1.800.474.6836), and they've helped me solve this issue in 10 minutes.
1) Open up your "Macintosh HD" and find Library > StartupItems > HP Trap Monitor

2) Drag the "HP Trap Monitor" folder to your desktop. This should automatically make a copy of the folder on your desktop

3) Once you have the copy of the folder, drag the original "HP Trap Monitor" folder into trash, but don't empty your trash yet

4) Hold down your Control key on keyboard and click on the "HP Trap Monitor" folder on your desktop and select "Get Info"

5) In the Info window under "Name & Extension," change the name so that it reads "HP Trap Monitor.app" (Type in your computer password whenever requested by your computer)

6) Once you close the Info window, the icon of the "HP Trap Monitor" folder should change from a folder icon to an application icon. Note that the name of it should now also be changed to "HP Trap Monitor.app"

7) Drag the "HP Trap Monitor.app" back into you Macintosh HD > Library > StartupItems

8) When a pop-up window appears, click on "Authenticate" (DO NOT click on "OK")

9) Restart your computer

10) After startup, pop-up window may appear regarding permission. Click on "Fix" and then "Restart"

11) Once your computer restarts again, you should be all set. You can now empty your trash.

Using Leopard 10.5.1 and HP's PSC 2355xi, I was getting the same HP IO Trap Monitor error as reported in this thread every few minutes. As others have suggested in this thread, removing the "HPIO Monitor" app from this folder ( /Libray/Printers/HP/hpio/ ) and restarting resolved the problem.
I am still able to scan with this all in one printer. I'm using the HP-supplied scanning software.
Prior to trashing the offending app, I chose to "Compress" it (creating a harmless .zip file in the same location). "Compressing" it and then trashing the original app just makes it easier to replace if I should ever have the desire to be annoyed by this message in the future.

I might have a work around

Try this

Installed Mac OSX Leopard optional software for HP Printers ( Drivers )

Installed HP Photosmart c6200 - c7200 - c8100 series software (version 9.1), the one that gets an “The application HPIO Trap Monitor quit unexpectedly” error

Downloaded HP Installer_PSC4200v9.7b.dmg for Leopard - Look on HP.com for HP Photosmart C4205 All-in-One

Installed HP Installer_PSC4200v9.7b.dmg over HP Photosmart c6200 - c7200 - c8100 series software. When installing software you have to check printer not found - continue - install for PSC4200 then enter.

Done

Worked on my Mac Pro and a iMac G5
