Topic : Mail 3.0 (Mac OS X 10.5): No sound when new email

Well it's been about 12 hours since it fixed, I've turned my computer on and off a few times, and it's still going strong. I think this is looking hopeful.

Yeah, you were right, it's cut out again.

it's definitely a bug. i get the no mail chime when there are mail. i also get no sound at all when there are mail. a couple of occasions i get new mail chime when it was junk mail. basically with the new mail.app you can't trust the sound notification.

Well my mail arrived sound worked sometimes, not very often, before the 10.5.1 update but has now stopped completely.

yes no sound in mail...
Delted "By Host", put a new action on arriving mail to play sound, even add a new sound from the HD into mail preference and nothing is working.. APPLE TEAM ! Please solve this bug, productivity is down while not able to know when new mail arrived !

Same here. Set up a rule to play a sound when messages form a particular sender appear, and to give the message a different background color. The background color is changed correctly, but no sound is played most of the time. Very rarely the sound is played, and sometimes the sound is played when I respond to a message from the sender referred to in the rule.

Not a peep on sends since the upgrade on my admin account whatever mail i'm using: Gmail, .Mac, or ISP POP3!

Nothing with external speaker. Nothing with headphones.

I've been so busy chasing bugs and incompatible software since going Leopard, i haven't tried any other accounts.

But since i haven't taken notice since updating to 10.5.1, i gave it a try after unchecking the "Play sounds for other Mail actions" box. *It worked!*

I then rechecked the box and tried again and got both outgoing and incoming sounds! Yay!

APPLE: PLEASE REPAIR THIS IN FUTURE UPDATES.

I had noticed the exact same thing with my mail. It would only make a sound when I SENT a message but not when one came in.
I checked system pref but couldn't find anything there.
Then I tried Mail Preferences and found that it was defaulted to No Sound. I have since changed that and now get sound when new mail comes in. I also unchecked the box for "Other Mail Actions" and no longer get RSS received sounds.

Hope this helps some of you out there.

No offense, but it's a bug. So sadly, your tips probably won't help the vast majority of us out here.

Yeah... I was pretty sure most of you out there had already checked this stuff, but for those new to Mac I thought what I had to say "might" help.

As usual for most of us MacLovers, we know eventually Apple will come out with a fix. I can't imagine them thinking this is a major flaw as much as an inconvenience that will need to be address when after they get other problems dealt with first.

My workaround: Setup a new rule whose condition is always met, make it run an applescript that goes "beep". Simple as that.
