Change Finder and trash can icons

Does anyone know how to change these icons in Leopard? Candybar 3 that supports Leopard isn't coming out until late November. Interfacelift describes a method to change the contents of Dock.app. I tried to change the finder.png that's in this folder, but it doesn't seem to change in the dock.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Actually, I've found that if you simply drag com.apple.dock.plist and com.apple.dock.db to the desktop after making the above suggested changes, do a killall Dock, you lose your settings, blah blah. Move the files from the desktop back to where they belong overwriting the existing and again do a killall Dock. That fixes everything for me. Don't, and I repeat, DON'T delete the plist file unless you want to manually setup your dock with the icons you want all over again.

I finally figured out how to change the Finder icon. Here's how.

1.) Get your icon that you want for Finder and put it on the desktop. Name it "FinderIcon.icns". Make sure the name is exactly as I wrote it or it won't work (including caps).
2.) Go to: Finder/system/library/coreservices. In coreservices there is a bundle called CoreTypes.bundle. Do a right click on this and open up "package contents". Go to resources.
3.) In there, there is a file called 'FinderIcon.icns' and it has the photo of the finder icon on it. Make a backup of this (just in case it doesn't work) and name it something like "backupfinder".
4.) delete "FinderIcon.icns from Core Types.
5.) Drag your icon from the desktop into the folder (you'll have to authenticate first).

Then, download this: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32346
That is called 'LiteIcon'.

Once that is downloaded, open it up and in the top right-hand corner there is a button called 'relaunch finder'.
Do so.

If all is right, then VOILA! your finder icon is changed!
