Installed Leopard - now no sound from my PowerBook G4!

Hi - everything seems to work OK but ...

I get no sound. I can't alter the volume control (I get the 'stop' circle crossed out when I try). System preferences says the machine is set up to use internal speakers and I have no other Firewire or USB sound device attached.

Any ideas please? David.

I did a repair permissions and that restored sound. Also see this thread on no sound, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5709226. It recommends resetting PRAM and also NVRAM, Reset PRAM restart computer, hold down option (alt) command (apple) P R until chime, then for NVRAM hold down option (alt) command (apple) O F and after prompt appears type in reset-nvram return, then reset-all return all. I did this after sound was working, just to see if helps keep sound on.

I'm having the same problem w/ my Powerbook G4 "12 after Leopard installation, however I installed it a few weeks back now and never had a problem until very recently. The only new addition in the meantime was Bento, which has nothing to do with my sound. I've restarted, checked out sys prefs, and nothing works. I don't see any speakers listed in "output" or "input," even when I plug in externals.

How do you reset the PRAM? Also, has any other user figured out a solution aside from an archive and install? I work at a store, I just don't want to bug a genius if I can fix myself.

Thx.

so weird!
I've got the same problem!
*it happened right after I was using iTunes' remote speaker feature :S*
as soon as I disconnected it just "turned off"

I get the volume display when I press the volume buttons, but it's VERY laggy (normally it's very snappy/quick)
also, when I adjust the volume, with the sound preferences pane open, I notice that the panning goes left/right everytime I press the button!
also, I get the startup sound, but anything after that (login) nothing happens

I'll try the PRAM+VRAM but I doubt it'll work
