Another Leopard Problem - Front Row & Airport Express/Airtunes

Just upgraded to Leopard.....

Now Front Row won't stream music through my Airport Express to remote speakers, although itunes will. What's going on and how do I fix this?

Using Front Row as a an interface for itunes streaming music wireless through my airport express connected to my hi-fi and distributing into to speakers in different rooms as an extremely vital function from my computer to have. It would be disgraceful if this functionality is not available in Leopard.

See my other post about the new Front Row 2.1.2

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1342406&tstart=0

I got tired of waiting for Apple to really upgrade Front Row, not downgraded it from 1.3.1

I reinstalled Front Row 1.3.1 and everything is working like it was originally designed to do.

No Apple TV for me either until the new Front Row is fixed properly and upgraded from 1.3.1, not downgraded.

Guys.. try airfoil, a free program which can stream audio coming from other applications like i movie, garageband and not apple applications.
The only thing is you cannot use the frontrow program link so you have to link your system audio to it.. now you can play forward/backward pause stop and that sort of things with the music but you can't make the sound goes louder or softer..

Good luck

I've tried AirFoil and found it a little finicky, IE you have to change settings in applications if you want to use that application and then afterwards you have to remember to change back to the default.

One program that I forgot that I had purchased while using Tiger, but didn't need since the remote just worked with VLC in leopard, was Remote Buddy.

i've been using that with AirTunes without a hitch, maybe an option for those of you who don't want to wait for apple to make their hardware and software compatible.

gsinparis,

Have you sent Apple your feedback? Please do (for what it's worth).

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

As far as I am aware, these forums are user-to-user and I have never seen Apple respond to queries/feedback posted here. Mind you, I have never seen Apple respond to queries/feedback anywhere...!

As for the issue (no AirTunes in Front Row 2.x) - along with the other main complaint (no artwork for remote source media), there are sooooo many people on these threads complaining and yet NO change to the situation, despite now reaching OS 10.5. 3

If Apple cared, they would have this fixed already. No - this is nothing more than a blatant move by Apple to drive consumers to buy their Apple TV (which does have all this functionality that has been removed from Front Row). But I most certainly will not be buying an Apple TV simply to get back the functionality I used to have under their older OS!

I think my love affair with Apple is drawing to a close...

It appears that Apple just doesn't care about all their loyal customers that bought a Mac Mini for their Home Entertainment system along with several Airport Express units to be able to stream music via Front Row to stereos around the house. Just like Apple advertised we could do.

I purchased a Mac Mini and 3 Airport Express units before Leopard came out....
Now the new Front Row in Leopard is useless and Apple doesn't seem to care about us.....

I have no use for an Apple TV... I don't get why anyone needs an Apple TV anyway.
Don't most people have cable TV or Satellite TV? Movies on demand? Pay-Per-View?
Or Block Buster video stores close by?
Why would I want to bog down my entire wireless network trying to watch a movie purchased thru Apple for the Apple TV? And you only have a couple of days to watch it...
NOT ME.... I don't get it.....

I am Very Disappointed that this has not be fixed.
I spent a lot of money when I had Tiger because I fell for the Apple advertising telling us to buy a Mac Mini for our Home Entertainment systems along with Airport Express with Airtunes.
What good is this now with the crummy new Front Row that doesn't work like it was advertised?

This would be like buying a new car and then a year later the car company says theirs an update to your car. Then they come and take all your tires away.... Now you can't drive your new car... Great update huh?

Hi,
After I saw that Apple have not yet addressed the need to fix this problem with the latest OS upgrade last week and as I did not want to downgrade to Front Row 1.x, as a last resort I have purchased AirFoil.
It works fine with iTunes and Front Row and other programs (with Airport express 802.11n - the most troublesome young brother). One note though - with video in Front Row or Quicktime you have synchronization issues, but this is solved with their embedded AirFoil Video Player and audio and video are also synched.
Sorry to report this fix comes from a 3rd party application. Since 3rd party applications are not very reliable I would always prefer a sound Apple solution.
Moreover, I still believe Apple is working on synchronization and other issues and will come up with a solution shortly (hopefully).

This issue is more far-reaching than just Front Row, which I have stopped using since installing Leopard. As I only have remote speakers, the advent of Leopard means that the imac has become awkward and clumsy for rendering music. As Front Row and itunes are no longer amalgamated to a common audio output, the remote control has become a useless piece of hardware stuck to the side of my imac. It used to work to control the volume in itunes... no longer. Equally, the volume controls on the keyboard also no longer function to control the volume of my remote speakers. Now, when I watch a music video in youtube, I have to put up with the tinny mac sound... no remote speakers. Same goes for my favourite internet radio station, which won't play in itunes. Apple have ruined a fantastically flexible multimedia platform.
Well done Apple!
