I have an official BMW iPod adapter installed in my 2006 BMW 320d, which worked fine with my 5g iPod 60GB. However, my new 6g 160GB iPod Classic is not recognised by the interface at all, no matter what I try. Creating special BMW playlists does not help. Who knows a solution?

Your BMW, like mine, requires a firmware update available from the dealership. When I picked up my new car in early November (2008 335xi) the dealership advised that the car required a software update for the ipod interface. They updated the software and now my ipod Classic 160GB works in the car. On a bit of a side note, the new official ipod adapter the doesn't appear to charge the ipod when it's connected to the car! I can't believe this is the way it was set up, but I've yet to find out for certain. Perhaps ANOTHER firmware update is in the works from BMW...
Hi,
I bought the same 160 Go Classic iPod and it it don't work on my DENSION GATEWAY 500 installation (on a 2004 AUDI A6)which works perfect with my VIDEO 5G IPOD... According to DENSION this will be fixed in the next firmware coming soon, and I'm sure they will do it.
The "big" problem now is the video. My DENSION system can play the VIDEOS on the embeded head rest TFT screens. Apple in its new iPods has included a chip that only recognise their own video cable! This is, according to DENSION support, much more complicated to solve and they think that they will be able to fix the problem during next year 2008 (when?)buying the chips from Apple and including them in their next product... This means that my $ 2600.00 installation will never work with my new 160Go Classic and I will need to change it! I can't believe it!!!
I suppose this will be the same for all the cars with ipod adapters.
Believe me,if this is the case, this is for sure my last iPod!
Nevertheless, if someone has some info on that, please post it.
Thanks

I have an genuine VW Ipod adapter with 1.0 firmware in my Passat which worked perfectly with my 5G Video and my old Nano. When I plugged in my new 160Gb Classic with 1.02 firmware the track listings updated on the screen most of the time but since 1.03 has been released it's not functioning at all. Fortunately I still have audio at the moment!
It seems ridiculous to me that all the accessories need to be updated when the easier fix to make sure that the new iPod firmware is backwards compatible. I bet all the vendors who paid Apple's "Made for iPod" tax are really steaming right now.
Come on Cupertino.... Listen to your customers!!!!

My 80Gb iPod was fine in my Jetta until the latest firmware update 1.0.3 PC. Now the audio tracks do not update on the ipod display. If a fix is not released by Apple, I'll be forced to revert to the previous firmware version.
I just purchased a new ipod classic 80 gb and it will not work with my ipod interface either! (i have a Mini Cooper which is made by bmw so i am going to assume that the part is the same) were you able to get this issue resolved with a firmware update through the dealership? they did not install my ipode interface but it is the oem part....please advise.....thanks!
I assume that it's a problem with the ipod that can easily be solved by apple. I am having an ipod interface for my bmw business cd radio (which is the simpliest you can get in europe). Sometimes the ipod classic connects just fine, sometimes the connection breaks down after 30 to 60 seconds and most of the time it won't connect at all.
Therefore it doesn't seem to me, that it's an impossibility to get it running like it should.
