Pointer jumpy on MPB (Leopard) after wake from sleep...
All,
My MacBook Pro's pointer is "jumpy" when the machine returns from sleep mode. Restarting the machine does clear out the issue. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Once you reproduce the jumpy pointer can you open Terminal.app and run this command -
sudo dmesg <PRESS ENTER>
password: <ENTER YOUR PASSWORD>
and then copy the last 50 or so lines of output and paste it here?
Reason I ask is I had similar issue and I get a particular error when that happens - just want to verify if yours is the same case. If so we can open a problem report with Apple at
http://bugreport.apple.com.
Thought I had fixed it with a PRAM but after a few "wake ups" it come back.
Found it's linked to airport, if you wake up and you have jumpy mouse then try and turn off airport you will see the mouse goes nuts and then stops working.
The work around for now I have found is to turn off airport just before you shut the lid or sleep. Then when you wake it you will find mouse is fine then of course you need to switch back airport (this is working for me)
Seen this sort of thing some time ago on PowerBook when you may get jerky mouse with some airport connections, it went away after a few software updates. So I assume it will get get better.
How can we log the bug as the above link does not work for me after using my Apple ID
Thanks Ray. If this were my thread, that would definitely be marked as "helpful." It's not ideal, of course, but any workaround is better than nothing.
Perhaps someone more adept than I am with Automator could create a one-key sequence that would turn off Airport and then sleep....
The Update 10.5.1 fixed this (for now) on my MBP. I did the software update and then the combo 110 MB update. Seems like Apple did something to address the problem, maybe they need to keep tracking to see what the variables are, but the process has begun. Hope the fix sticks for me. Will report back if the bug returns.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. With 10.5.1 out, I did a clean install of leopard and upgraded to 10.5.1 afterwards. The problem still exists.
I can confirm the fact that switching AirPort on/off has impact on how badly the pointer jumps / freezes. With AirPort off it is worse than with AirPort enabled.
Let's hope that the abovementioned bugs will be resolved soon, as hibernation is one of the best time / energy-savers for the MacBooks in everyday use.
Sorry for my english, but I have found another situation. If I connect to the mac my wireless logitech mouse, the pointer drive with trackpad work fine, without jump and stop.
I have tested this situation after comeback from sleep mode and I conferm that all function.
I'm having this problem as well. About 1 in 5 wake-ups, I get a black screen, eventually when the computer wakes up (~2 min) the trackpad will be all jumpy and animations are not smooth.
I was having this problem before leopard (I did a fresh install of leopard) and I have also got a few kernel panics. I tried the whole turn off airport before sleep and at first I thought it worked but after a few times it happened again with airport off.
I was wondering if this is thought to be a software problem or is this a hardware problem? I need my computer for school right now, but I'm wondering if I should bring it in over the holiday break.
