Pointer jumpy on MPB (Leopard) after wake from sleep...
All,
My MacBook Pro's pointer is "jumpy" when the machine returns from sleep mode. Restarting the machine does clear out the issue. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Once you reproduce the jumpy pointer can you open Terminal.app and run this command -
sudo dmesg <PRESS ENTER>
password: <ENTER YOUR PASSWORD>
and then copy the last 50 or so lines of output and paste it here?
Reason I ask is I had similar issue and I get a particular error when that happens - just want to verify if yours is the same case. If so we can open a problem report with Apple at
http://bugreport.apple.com.
Add another one for erratic cursor. I don't have the wake problems, though a restart does not fix my issue. Cursor is still erratic, even when using a known good external mouse. I don't have an airport either.
Count me in - Highly irritating. At least Apple is aware of it but I hope the fix comes quick. Rebooting 6-8 times a day is getting REALLY old. I could have bought a $398 Acer from Walmart if I wanted these kinds of problems.
Exact same problem. I'm just posting for Apple's engineering team to see.
This issue has plagued my MBP since the day I got it in both Tiger and now Leopard (with an erase and install). Even occurs with all third party apps set to start at login disabled.
Same problem here. It's intermittent, but has occurred after only being asleep for a few minutes. Either won't wake up at all, or wakes up w/ jumpy mouse as described. Fully patched Leopard, clean install on 15" MBP.
After a few sleep/wake cycles, my screen doesn't turn on. I try some keystrokes (apple+spacebar works most of the time) and then the screen turns on but I get the jerky mouse thing.
Count me in as well, I have been having the exact same problems as dancingonthehighway. I also had to get my battery replaced at the Genius Bar today, due to the mysterious battery capacity loss problem. It looks like Leopard was released way, way too early...
Add another to the list - brand new MBP 2.2, clean install of Leopard. No software installed other than what came on the Leopard disk (and software updates as recommended).
This machine shipped with Tiger, and would have mouse jumpy/freezing on wake from sleep intermittently. But now in Leopard it's multiple reboots per day. Many time the mouse freezes completely a few minutes after waking from sleep. I've reinstalled Leopard twice in hopes of clearing it up. Anyone NOT having this problem??
I found this thread and felt like I needed to tell my story about this problem.
I bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4ghz a couple days after Leopard came out. I had all these problems with the wake from sleep, jittering cursor and constant restarts. My first install was an erase and install of Leopard, the second an upgrade reinstall. Then after a clean install of Tiger, all problems except the occasional keyboard freeze up went away. I started to miss Leopard enough to believe that maybe an archive and install would make a difference, so like a dummy I did. All of my problems came back. By the way, after each install I was restoring my 6600 songs, 2500 plus pictures, documents etc... I wasn't having fun, but my past years of great Macintosh service kept me thinking "this is probably all I need to do, it'll work this time". Well it didn't and neither did the first point upgrade.
So I made a trip to the Apple store hoping that it would stay in it's comatose state at the genius bar. It did, they were baffled and I left with a new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I was very happy and looking forward to setting it up. Everything was great. A couple days later I installed one of my favorite widgets, Istat Pro. No more than an hour later this brand new Macbook Pro failed to wake from sleep for about 2 minutes and of course the cursor problem was there when it did. I deleted Istat Pro and it's been fine since then. Almost a week with no problems. (except occasional keyboard freeze!)
I know there are so many variables, but in my case it appears that widget was my problem. I can't help but wonder if I had just removed Istat Pro from the original computer would it have just snapped out of it's funk and been OK?
I called the guys at the Apple store. The one I talked to on the phone said he has an older Macbook Pro with Istat Pro on it with no problems. Maybe just a Santa Rosa chip concern?
Anyway, I hope that might help someone, (I feel your pain!)
Thanks, Matt.
