My kid dropped my new phone in the toliet, NO help from the Apple store.

Yea so a long story short, My kid threw my iphone in the toilet. and after trying everything that anyone suggested, I realize this thing is not coming back to life.

So today I took it to the apple store to have them fix it. I never had the chance to activate it because I am waiting for my current contract to expire. They soon told me without activation with AT&T they could not help me.

So i guess my question is, can they refuse to fix my phone, even tho I am willing to pay for the repair???

What were you using your iPhone for - especially since no functions work until the iPhone is activated with AT&T? Did you use a hack to make all iPhone functions work without activation except for the cell phone?

If so and since your iPhone is no longer covered under warranty, I guess Apple can refuse to fix your phone even if you are willing to pay for it since Apple may not be able to fix it or maybe they can't ensure it can be fixed or will work properly afterwards due to the hack.

I believe there are 3rd parties that may be able to help you with this.

The phone was given to me as a gift when they first came out(4 gig)I opened the box to check out the phone and then put it on my bookcase. Well i never activated it because my current contract doesn't expire till the 11th of November.

My kid found the box one day and next thing you know its in the toilet. They told me they cant repair it because it hasn't been activated. i don't think that shoould have anything to do with it

In my opinion, they shouldn't deny you repair and/or service. However, in the Apple Store, i'm sure they figured that you voided your warranty on it by dropping it into the toilet. EVERYONE should ALWAYS read the terms and warranty agreement that you get by purchasing the phone. Not everyone does, and it's just so you know to take extra care of the things you purchase.

My suggestion to you is that, if you do not get any help from the Apple Store, to contact Apple directly and calmly explain your situation. But, make sure that you let them know you are willing to pay for the service/repair charges as well, and I'm almost positive they will be able to help you.

Hope all gets taken care of for you!

It is unfortunate. I would feel terrible too. The only possible way to make sense of this would be to make an analogy:
Your car rolls into a lake because you forgot to put it in park. The car is totaled. Is the car company at fault? I don't think you can make the car dealer responsible either.
It s tough to stomach when an accident destroys our property. The reason why I have to side with the manufacturer is this: Every time they replace a unit destroyed they have to recoup that lost material. In the end we all end up paying for it. Its called shrink in retail, shoplifted and damaged goods are paid for by other consumers.

Sorry

Well the best thing to do is talk with the Apple store that you purchased your iPhone from and explain the situation and if that doesn't help i'd call Apple and explain what happened, i'm sure you're not the only person who has dropped their iPhone in water however with your situation it hasn't been activated so it may be a bit different, Apple customer service would be able to answer your questions.

Yeah I know what you mean I mean last year my bro took my cell phone and accidently dropped it into the the toilet too. But he never told me about it so when i used my phone it was all dry but it smelt like it had been drenched in a sweaty sock that smelt like poop. He eventually told me what he did. After hitting him a few times i like took it back and the company was like we cant take it back..... something to do with it being a biohazard....pssshhh. I told them that it was not my fault their phone wasn't more water resistant and stuff and demanded a replacement.

THey never helped me though go figure!

I later got a new phone but *Fight the power man!!!*
