NAS networkdrive not working with SMB (no files on drive in Leopard)

Since upgrading to Leopard I'am having problems using my network drive. Connecting is a pain in the *, but when Iam connected (thanks to sollutions found on the forum) my drive in empty using SMB. When connecting via FTP there is no proplemm, and al the files are there. But becaus file writing on the drive from my mac via FTP is still not possible in the finder, Iam stuck. Anyone any ideas?

Hey! Thanks for posting that. It shows up as a server for me... I need to fix some settings in my NAS so I can use the server name..something I never got around to doing, but when I login using the IP address, Guest as the user name and the password, I can get access to each folder. If I close the finder window and reopen, it is still there. The only problem I am having is that I want to use the NAS as my media source for iTunes... I have tried making an alias but when I put the NAS as something I want to login to at startup, it says it can't connect...the password in the keychain is fine too. This screws up iTunes too.. even when I login after this fails, it can't find the songs when I click on them...hmmm...will want to work on this as I don't want my iTunes collection taking space on the HD of the macbook.

Well... for anyone who has been reading my post (with replies to myself) I have given up on getting the NAS to work as a place to store my iTunes library. I am not 100% certain, but I think it boils down to some buggy support for SMB sharing in OSX 10.5.1. Too bad the NAS doesn't support AFP, since that seems to be better. I setup a copy of FreeNAS running in a Virtual Machine on my winXP box and it seems to be really stable with respect to the AFP connection. It tends to show up and remain connected. Even if I disconnect and then reconnect the next day, iTunes can find the music. While I suppose I could setup a FreeNAS server, I would rather have a low power alternative. I think I will check out the FreeNAS ability to accept Time Machine as well...but will wait until the next patch release of OSX to do this... or at least until the Time Capsule is released. I am actually considering Time Capsule as a viable alternative if it meets the following conditions:

1) Is reachable via my XBMC using the IP address (not a deal breaker since I could keep the NAS attached to the network for that)
2) Accepts USB hard drives for expansion (for holding iTunes or even TM backups)
3) Allows for password protected shares/drives or user-level sharing

I hope they have all the kinks worked out with Time Machine. If it can't do these things then I'll be more inclined to setup a server in a VM on my PC and dedicate a drive to a VM with an HFS disk image or something.

Hi guys,

Sorry for being MIA for a while.
Progress with that 48 NAS Driver is that it is not perfect but still works and a lot slower than when it all worked on Tiger. I see that it hasn't worked for some people though, so don't bother with it if you are new here.
Luckily wingjames got further with Vantec support and got 49beta. Will give it a try tonight.
Good Luck guys. Apple seem to have a lot to answer for, but good to see some people have finally found their answer. Thanks wingjames!
