Hi is there any info on the noise of the new G5´s. Looking at the picture´s there seems to be an update to cooling design, just wondering if anybody has some feedback yet....

ok, went to the store to have a look at the new apple dc's (dual core) they had one in the showroom (2.0 version). right next to a previous powermac 2.7. decided to start os 9 on both machines. the old one started ALL of it's fan's at the same time (Jet engine) on the new model euhh nothing happened. the fans kept at the same (very slow) pace. even the sales rep was surprised about this...
The new dual-core 2.0 GHz and the older 2.7 GHz machine have different types of cooling systems. The dual 2.7 has a liquid cooling system and the dual-core 2.0 does not. The fans on my 2.7 GHz machine have never been offensive although they do at times run faster than the ones on my first edition dual 2.0 GHz.
Fans are one thing, the real question is about the power supplies...I would love to talk with anyone who has a new machine, specifically a new Dual-core 2.3...I am sitting on my hands waiting to hear.
N'E One?
Well, I've just ordered a new dual-core 2GHz after only a few months with a Rev A iMac G5. The fan noise in that iMac is well documented on these forums and I have finally had enough of it - it's simply impossible to work properly when your sitting in front of a jet plane taking off.
The new PowerMac arrives tomorrow and my number one priority with it will be checking out its quietness - I know what a computer should sound like! This is the first PowerMac I will have ever used so I won't be able to compare it with another model but I have read in depth about the wierd power supply noises and I'll be sure to keep you posted on my findings.

I'm curious as well if these new dual cores will have the same chirping & mouse scroll static noises as all the previous and current G5's have.
I also hope Apple figured out how to get rid of those noises dependent on cpu load etc. If not, I'm alright as I'm not going to be mixing in Logic while going through the dock. As long as there's no ground loop etc like one of the accessory fans in my MDD has, I'll be ok.
ME TOO! i've waited to buy one (sent one back that had terrible noise on the audio output) for many many months. now i'm SO curious. i was thinking to wait for the intel machine, but if these are good-to-go... then....?
please new owners of the quad machines post and tell us how the audio output noise level is.. do you hear chirping from the power supply? is there graphics-related noise in the audio output? etc. we all know too well by now.
tia.

I'd be chirping too if I were putting out 700watts. Man that's a lot of power to keep silenced. I'm interested also to see if they did anything to improve that. I doubt it...but it remains to be seen (or heard).
Someone on a German Board wrote, that his brandnew DualCore 2x2 does neither hum nor chirp. And no noise on the audio out, too.
Does that German say what equipment he has hooked up to his new DualCore? The chirping problem can go unnoticed for many especially if they do not have any pro, balanced audio gear attached. I could not get the chirping or static noises to stop until I purchased an RME audio card, the M-Audio card I had did not stop the chirping at all. And CHUD/NAP is really just a band-aid.
I remember that he wrote that his old Dual chirped (especially under high graphic load) and had noise on the audio out, so the new one works silently in the same working surrounding. But I don´t know what external equipment he is using. He´s got the small graphic card and has tested the DC with several video converter and benchmark progs.
By the way, the DC was quite exactly equally fast with his old (2003) Dual 2GHz, or slightly faster.
A single quiet one is no proof, of course - but at least a good sign 🙂.

Ricky,
That is good news. It sounds as if he is familiar with the noises so it's not like he just bought a new G5 and started listening to iTunes full blast saying that there is no chirping or mouse scrolling static noises.

I posted a message above (under the alias Grover) and I have now set up my brand new Dual-Core 2GHz G5 and can't quite believe how quiet this thing really is. As I said before, up until now, I have been using a deafening iMac G5 (Rev A) which prompted my new purchase.
Although I have only been using the PowerMac for a few hours I have briefly tested it's first responses to a number of simultaineous tasks. I set Quicktime to encode a high-resolution video (while playing the video at the same time). At this point, I fired up Photoshop, Dreamweaver opened multiple images and documents all at the same time and all with the intensive encoding going on in the background. To top it off, I visited a Flash intensive website and played a few seconds of music.
I can honestly say that at no point during this process did the computer make any kind of obvious noise. In fact, I had to literally hold my ear to the side of the case to hear anything and then all I could really notice was the faint ticking over of the hard drive - it is as if there are no fans in there at all.
This machine, so far at least, really is "Whisper Quiet"... no beeps, no crunching and no odd sounds coming through the speakers. I would certainly see no reason why the Dual 2.3 or the Quad should be any different.
My iMac is currently sitting next to the PM and looks rather jealous. I gave it a chance but now I have experienced true quiet with a Mac, it has to go!

Well that is good news, are you sure there is no noise coming from the power-supply....don't tease me!
I really appreciate the input, and if you wouldn't mind please keep us updated as well. Hopefully she will reamain the strong SILENT type.
