Noise on new G5´s

Hi is there any info on the noise of the new G5´s. Looking at the picture´s there seems to be an update to cooling design, just wondering if anybody has some feedback yet....

Can a quad owner please test the sound (type and level) coming from the quad, before and after removing the air guide? Mine sounds like a fish tank pump before and is rather quiet after. A single fan is spinning up when the air guide is in place, and is causing the the machine to be noisy when idling. I don't think this is by design, and this is not the sound of a fast spinning fan, but more the sound of a defective fan.
Does anybody else get the same results?
Many thanks

Strange that I don't see this software reporting the change in fan speed. Perhaps this fan is not hardware controlled?

The plastic air guide is exposed if you remove the aluminium case door. You have to remove it to gain access the harddrives, memory etc.

Does the sound change when this is removed i.e. does it go from a pump like sound to a woosh. I expect the fan to create a little more noise when spinning faster, but mine makes a totally different sound when spinning faster. It stand out from all the other sounds the computer creates.

Hence I am trying to diagnose if I have a defective fan, or if this is common amongst G5 owners.
Many thanks

However the quad sounds like a fish tank pump when
idle. This is not a loud sound, but it is noticeable,
and does break the silence. When playing music, I can
just hear it, but after some time, the music drowns
it out.
What is causing this pump like sound? Is it a defect,
or is this the normal sound of the quad, coming from
a fan or the actual cooling pumps?
Cheers

The G5 shouldn't have anything detectable other than a normal fan sound. Is the sound you're hearing a "whining" motor sound or is it a "gurgling" liquid sound?

At idle, my Quad is easy to tolerate. Some fans run twice as fast as the Dual 2.3, but I don't notice them much. Apple did an excellent job dampening the 9 fans overall.

However, when the pumps climb from their idle (1250 RPM), a random harmonic "Hmm..Hm..Hmmmmm..Hm.Hm.Hm.." begins. I've tried pressing on various parts of the enclosure, as well as on the inside, but it must be something behind the G5 logo. It might be a vibration beneath the cooling aparatus.

It's easy to tune-out a steady sound, but the random "humm" change is difficult. Disabling Nap does force everything to run at a faster, more consistent speed, but it seems overkill and is obviously louder.

Couldn't the pumps remain at 1250.. and the fans be used to compensate alone? G5 noise has always been an issue for users, and although the Quad has made a lot of improvements, I still hope for some thermal profile behavior control.

For now, I have my G5 as far away as I can place it.

Does anyone else notice the harmonic changing humm?

More like a gurgling sound, but it isn't coming from the cpus. It is coming from the top of the case - either the hd cooling fan, or the motherboard backside fan. However hw monitor does not detect this change in fan speed.
Of course I can't really hear the quad if the tv or music is on.
But in a silent room, the sound is most distracting as it is not a constant woosh of fans.
Do you notice the same change when removing the air guide?

I have done some further investigations.

When the air flow guide is in place, it is the expansion slot intake fan (at the front of the case, above the cpu fans) that is making the most noise in the case. If this is stopped or if the air flow guide is removed and the fan slows down, then case becomes quiet.

This is not monitored correctly by hardware monitor, as it still reports RPM of 1560. No fans are reported to have been stopped.

Should this fan be so much louder than all others?

Do I have a defective fan?

Can someone please test if there fan is making all the noise?

NB: I have a quad.

Thanks
