iTunes 7.6 and firmware 1.1.3 do not fix the problem !!!
Unbelievable, what a shame !!!
The problem is known for such a long time and no solution in sight! No answer is coming from Apple!
Thank you for your great help !!! 

Let me summarize again the problem:
Now I have a second ⚠ iPod touch and on one computer, the problems like described above always coming up.
All other iPods (nano 2. and 3. generation) are working well with this computer. Also I have really no problems with other USB devices.
I have reinstalled ITunes many times, the device driver is working well, all diagnostic information from ITunes are fine and I also installed a new Adaptec USB 2.0 card to try other USB ports.
Nothing does solve the problem, I am really frustrated !
I really hate iTunes because it also has many other bugs which I do want to list here. Apple should think about it to develop it again from scratch by using other good developers. The iPod Touch is a wonderful device with a great firmware, but iTunes is destroying everything…

I had the same problem after moving my iTunes library away from my user folder. Although I had specified the correct path to the library in iTunes’ preferences, I got the message that “The required disk cannot be found” when I tried to synch to my ROKR.

What solved the issue for me was dragging the folder +/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music+ onto the iTunes icon.
