IPOD CLASSIC AUTO DISCONNECT FIX

I seemed to have found a solution to Ipod classics auto disconnecting. I found this Microsoft hotfix pertaining to USB 2.0 issues. I installed the hotfix and my Ipod is running perfectly.

Does anyone know how long this patch/driver update has been available? Has anyone else had luck with it? I'm just waiting for my 160GB Classic to be returned (hopefully a new one). I had to return it (long route/long story) because of all the "classic" problems everyone has had. I need to keep this link in mind if the new one doesn't work too.

Thanks!

This hotfix is also not working for me. I think the problem is just the way iTunes works (and this is something that needs to be fixed ASAP). The settings are set so that as soon as all the music is updated the iPod ejects, BUT if no playlists are selected to update then it just ejects the iPod right away. There is no way to change the settings for the iPod once it has been auto-ejected and no way to acesss settings unless the iPod is plugged in.

This is really frustrating because I have a working iPod that I cannot put music on. Please if anyone figures out a solution post it here, and also if there are Apple employees on these boards this is a major issue that needs to be addressed here and also in a bug fix or iTunes update. THis is amajor design flaw with iTunes/iPod.

Thanks

If you already have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or Windows XP PRO), or higher (Vista) the hotfix is a WASTE OF TIME. It already exists in your OS.

goto Start > Run...
type in 'regedit'
navigate to this key (just like folders):

HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB\EnSoftRetry

The DWORD value 'EnSoftRetry' is already set to 1, like what the hotfix does.
Hotfix Listed Above Info: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/908673

therefore this still doesn't solve our problem! sure everyone could go out and buy a belkin or griffin USB cable, but why should we? we purchased our iPods from a (obviously not-so-reputable now) company and expect something that works. not some piece of broken sh1t. (i don't mean that APPLE, but i'm not rich, i just cant go and buy another when my first one breaks)

what we need is a good old RECALL on all the classics, because i know at least 20 people who have 80GB (i got one) and 160GB classics with this same problem. SONY and MICROSOFT did a recall with their new game systems; they made their customers happy... i feel really sad/mad right now; APPLE can you cheer me up?

The auto-disconnect is not limited to Classics, it's been known to happen to older models as well. After an auto-sync completes, +you can't initiate another auto-sync without physically disconnecting the iPod+. The iPod will still appear in the source column but you can't start a 2nd auto-sync. The work-around is to enable disk mode to keep the iPod from disconnecting from iTunes.

i have disk mode enabled and that doesnt help.
it is not a software problem, because it only happens when you touch the ipod or there's a slight vibration or bump, then it disconnects.
mine disconnects and then reconnects infinitely, causing iTunes to say that my ipod is corrupt, then crash, then say its fine. but i know its not fine because the noise that windows makes when connecting or disconnecting any usb device goes off 20 or 30 times.
its not my windows because i've reinstalled 5 times in the past month and other peoples windows/xboxs/macs all do it too.

i dont know what to do...
