I seemed to have found a solution to Ipod classics auto disconnecting. I found this Microsoft hotfix pertaining to USB 2.0 issues. I installed the hotfix and my Ipod is running perfectly.

I agree "RECALL, RECALL, RECALL...!!!" - it would be good if Apple could accept that there is something seriously wrong here. I thought I might have stuffed up coz we just got an ipod (online from apple.com) and it has only read ONCE on our computer, and then after I ejected it and tried to reconnect it stays connected for about 2 seconds then ejects. Tried different cables/USB ports, tried the 5 R's, tried online help (the free stuff) - the hotfix doesn't work coz it's already included in my Service Pack!!! Argh!!! It makes me wanna throw this thing away and NEVER buy apple stuff again. If anyone EVER finds a solution to this problem PLEASE POST IT OUT THERE for all us suckers to use. By the way - it works FINE on Macs (have tried it on a few and those are the ones I've done the 5R's on) but I can't reformat for PC because no PC computer can read it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (as a bit of a technophobe if I've missed something simple I would really appreciate it if anyone could point this out to me).
