jpegs from adobe lightroom causing finder, iphoto, mail, preview, crashes!

This post issue started in the DOCK and FINDER catagory but it is more wide spread so I've started a thread in here as well.

Here's the problem...
It seems certain jpegs and other image files that had metadata added in Adobe's Lightroom running on TIGER will now crash apps like PREVIEW, iPHOTO, MAIL, and even the FINDER if you try and get info on the pic (which by the way doesn't support an icon of the picture in any finder view).

Just got off the phone with Apple about this and they say it's NOT a known issue yet and suggested that I downgrade to TIGER. What a headache!!!! They're still jpegs!!!

Alternatively, you can delete the nameset using the Delete button in File Info (see attached screenshot). The nameset is used to store the Lightroom "Snapshot" data, so deleting it from non Raw files shouldn't lose you anything. {quote}

Deleting "http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-saved-settings/1.0/" from the jpegs' meta-data in Bridge did resolve the issue. However, I've got 200 images and it appears Bridge will only do them one at a time. Anyone got a better work around or something automated? Any way to just tell Lightroom not to add this tag?

hi j deschamps felt i had to reply to your comment about meta data from lightroom being saved to original file back in tiger being the reason why the finder crashes,also iphoto mail preview crashes i dont think this is the case i have only just started using lightroom since i upgraded to leopard on a clean install from tiger and i also have mega problems with the finder etc crashing big time if my photos are viewed anywhere other than lightroom or bridge cs3. i have never used lightroom in tiger or cs3 in tiger there has to be another reason for this

I just ran into this issue. I had 250+ photos that have been processed in Lightrom 1.31, with extensive metadata. Bringing them over to my G4 PowerBook running Leopard, I experienced the hang in import in iPhoto 8 and the Finder crash when trying to Preview or get info.

I went back to Lightroom and exported the group of images with "minimize metadata" checked. I set the JPEG compression at 100, as these are small web-size images that I am trying to get into an iPhone to use as a portable portfolio. The jpegs with the stripped metadata imported into iPhoto properly and quickly.

This is definitely a bug, and since Lightroom supports both EXIF and IPTC metadata, Apple needs to get on board and fix this, whether it's just the general nameset, or a specific line within the meta data.
