HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard

I'd just like to know if there is anyone who is able to use an HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard.

I can print, but the printing is all garbled.

iMac G5 1.8 mhz, Macbook Core 2 Duo 2.0 mhz, Aiport Extreme - N, Mac OS X (10.4.10), iPod 5.5 30 gig, iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle 2G

Thank you so much for your post. I have been through the gauntlet between HP and Apple. The Genius Bar tech said to contact HP. HP online chat said call tech support (India). The call screener would not let me talk to a technician unless I paid $69 in advance. When I talked my way up to a supervisor, he said he would send me a new driver program, if I paid for shipping ($9.95). I eventually got a response from the HP email support site after waiting 3 days, asserting that the problem was in Leopard, and Apple had not offered a fix. Specifically, they said the pre-installed driver on 10.5 systems will only work if you are running a power pc processor. Apple had released a workaround for 10.4, but not 10.5, so the HP 7550 would not work with my MacBook Pro. Your solution has proved them wrong. I followed your instructions and now the HP 7550 is working. You are a genius.

This fix did indeed work but printing is only draft quality. If I go to the HP printer dialogue box as opposed to the application, the print then all goes wrong and comes out a garbled mess.

I've recently migrated all my operations over to Mac at home and it's causing me a lot of hassle and money to get back to what I had some weeks ago.

I've had to throw away all my peripherals, even my phone won't connect!

I also found Frederick's fix to be the solution for my 7550 printer. But after following Frederick's directions to the T for 3 times and the printer still didn't work, I did it a 4th time but forgot to insert the Leopard install disk to reload the HP printer drivers. The printer worked! It's using the Gutenprint 5.1.3 printer driver that self installed when I connected the printer to my iMac. The HP printer drivers are missing from the Library/Printers/ folder and the printer is working fine.

Is there any reason to reinstall the HP printer drivers?

Thanks for all the helpful comments on this issue. I guess HP thinks we should discard our 7550 printers if using a Mac. I will replace mine in the future but not with a HP.
