Google Maps Error Message - "Driving directions could not be received"

Hi guys, i've had my iPhone for quite a while now and lately I'm getting the error message "Driving directions could not be received" when I'm in the maps application. I've reset the phone and I'm still getting that message. Any ideas as to whats going on?

I tried this today and it worked for me also... I have to mention that in some cases, only entering the postal code isn't very useful. My wife and I are currently house shopping and are looking in the same area where we currently live (a fairly large town with one postal code). I was using Google Maps all the time before I started getting this error message to get directions to houses we were planning to look at... Entering the postal code for this use won't be helpful.

Yes I agree that it is not very specific. I must be luckier than you though as where I live each postcode is for only upto around 20 houses. I live in a town of around 3000 houses and although the first 4 characters of the postcode are the same for everyone, it's last 3 that identify the specific houses.
Good luck with the house hunting and I hope your google problems are solved soon

Try this which worked for me yesterday (finally)...

I put in the street address and the zip code, but did not put the town/state. Worked fine. I haven't tried it extensively, but it is the first it has worked. I had preceded this try with holding down the home button as someone else had suggested, not sure which "fixed" the problem.

This one returned some interesting results... I entered street addresses and postal codes (no city or state) for a route from Baltimore to Pittsburgh. Google Maps did give me directions (no error message)... From the same Baltimore street address (except it was in South Carolina instead of Baltimore) and the "to" address was the same street address (except it was in Utah instead of Pittsburgh). While I didn't get an error message, these directions definitely won't work for me. 🙂

I think we're getting closer.

Thanks.

I can plot addresses successfully until the cows come home (and they do, twice a day...), but I can't always get the addresses to link as driving directions. Omitting the cities seems to work sometimes. I have not upgraded to Leopard yet, and this for me did not coincide with an iphone update either. I don't get how the addresses can plot, but the driving directions can't. Especially since it USED TO WORK!!! That is the most annoying part. IT USED TO BE SEAMLESS!!! So what changed either in the iphone software, or the google software to make it not work now?

I have the same problem. The driving directions worked great until about a month and a half ago. I tried some of the suggestions in this discussion group, and I do get directions when I put partial addresses (e.g. only street name and zip code). I still don't understand why this feature worked great for a while and then it just stopped. I also want to know if it's an Apple problem or a Google problem. I asked at the Apple store today, but they didn't seem to be familiar with the problem. They suggested I downloaded the latest upgrade. I did, but it didn't change anything. I hope there is a solution, because as someone said, this WAS an awesome feature!

This was not working for me this evening. I needed to get to a hotel. I was using the newest google maps that came with 1.1.3. I looked up the hotel using a search, and got the address. I then tried to route from my current location to the hotel. Got the error. Tried many of the recommendations in the thread (reset phone, reset maps, turn off wi-fi, etc.)

Then I looked closely at the address that Google had turned up for the hotel, and it was odd. So I went tried to map from current location to Austin, TX. That worked. I changed the Austin TX to the actual address of the hotel, and it worked.

So, just because google finds the address when you search doesn't mean (for some reason) that it can map to that address. I don't understand why that would be, but it seems to be true...
