iTunes keeps asking me to register iPod Touch

Hi,

Just got a brand new iPod Touch today for my birthday. It is a thing of beauty - the device itself seems to work fine and I had no problem connecting up to iTunes, registering the product with my AppleID and syncing my music library to the device.

For info, I'm running Windows XP Home on a Dell Dimension PC. I've used iTunes for years with an iPod mini. Before connecting the Touch, I downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes (7.5.0.20). Even though I've always used iTunes with a different iPod, it recognised my new device and sync'd my library to it (which is what I wanted it to do).

Trouble is, each time I reconnect the Touch to the computer, when iTunes starts up it comes up with the product registration screen again. If I go through this process and put in my Apple ID, it asks me the same questions - update profile information, say which country I'm in, what age range I'm in etc. - it accepts it and then the Touch and its contents show up in iTunes no problem. But still every time I connect up it comes up with the registration screen. Oh, and the same thing seems to happen irrespective of whether I open iTunes before or after the Touch is connected, and irrespective of whether the Touch is on or off when I connect it.

I've tried the "5 Rs" on the Apple support website - no difference. I'd rather avoid having to completely uninstall iTunes unless it's really necessary, as I don't really want to have to rebuild my music library again.

I will be very, very grateful if someone can help me out with this.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I had this problem too but it went away. I don't know whether this is the reason, but I was initially calling my ipod touch a different name to an older ipod that I owned and was using with my itunes. When I called the new ipod by the same name as the old one, the problem disappeared. I don't know whether this is coincidence but it worked for me. The serial number of the new etc still comes up so I think I'm registered.

I am trying to sync my ipod touch with my itunes music library. It recognizes it by the name I gave it but every time I plug it in, I am asked to register my ne ipod. I have done this about five times as well as clicked the register later button to get to the main summary page. Click on sync button, itunes reports syncing Ipod, or says so, Stays that way for a few minutes then the ipod touch shuts itself of and the itunes reports that it is no longer syncing and just shows that it is connected. I have downloaded the most recent version of itunes, itunes even downloaded and installed an update on the ipod touch. I am running windows vista home media center. If I go under my computer it is not listed anywhere as a drive.
Don't know if any solutions are available. This *****.

I'm having the same problem with my nano. Keep getting registration screen but most of text and some of the options like "register later" don't appear. Finally got it to show "never register" and did that even though I've already registered online. But now I can't get past the license agreement screen. I agree to it, but whether I hit cancel or save nothing happens and again part of the screen is cut off. Is there another option I'm not seeing?

I can download music onto my device, but can't look at or manage any of it in itunes, just see the license agreement. Any help would be appreciated but it appears this is a bug that needs to be fixed.

I had the same problem yesterday. I got my iPod touch exchanged under warranty and had to register the new device upon syncing with iTunes. Every time I disconnected it and synched again, iTunes wanted me to register. Then I clicked "iTunes" -> "Preferences" (or is it "settings" in the English version) - well, you know hopefully what I mean), where you can find a "Synchronise" tab. I clicked on it and found that there was a backup of my previous iPod that i had exchanged as well as a backup of the new device (the backup feature is new in iTunes 7.5). I deleted the older one and tried again to disconnect and connect - and this time iTunes didn't ask me any more. So maybe you have a quick look if there are older backups or if you are using different iPods that all share the same name. Good luck!
