Playing Second Life on new MacBook

I was wondering if anyone can play Second Life on their macbook. I just got the new Nov 07 macbook with 2gb of ram. I installed Second Life and am able to get to Orientation Island, but after less than a minute it freezes up. This happens everytime. I know this macbook isn't meant for games, but I've heard of other people with the older video cards that are able to play this game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know what is going on with new macbooks, but they are turning to be a piece of junk!

I experienced my self, and have heard a lot of people with same problems in their new ones: hardware over heating, sudden start ups, programs crashing, etc.

In my opinion is a matter of overheating, due to more powerfull processors in older hardware designs not ment to be for the new specifications.

This may have been solved in 10.5.2, I'm testing it now and so far I've been in game for a few minutes. It looks like it has been solved.

I originally did the setting.xml edit (see above posts) and that fixed the crashes but transparent things would randomly pop in front of or behind other things as a result (independent of thier actual physical location). So I undid the edit by replacing FALSE with TRUE in the edit. Hopefully getting the occlusion causing crash problem fixed has also taken care of this.

The true test would be to delete second life from you macbook completely and see if it works then... that means removing the files from the applications folder as well as the files in user>library>application support>second life (keep the .xml file that was edited for occlusions on your desktop just in case you need to added back in later. Re download a new version of second life and install that one and then test.

I did this on a new macbook (not pro btw)
For a total freeze about 30 seconds into sl..this worked on my NEW Macbook...(not the problem with old ones) Find the "user_settings" folder under your Second Life folder that is under yourname/library/Application support/secondLife/user_settings Data. Note also you will have a folder with your Avatar's name. Don't change the settings.xml file in that folder - change the one in the user_settings folder.

* once you have found user_settings/settings.xml. You will have to manually add the command to disable Object Occlusion to this file. The lines to add before the "</settings>" are:
o <!--Enable object culling based on occlusion (coverage) by other objects-->
o <UseOcclusion value="FALSE"/>
* Save the setting.xml file and then try to connect to Second Life.
It worked for me like a dream!!
