Playing Second Life on new MacBook

I was wondering if anyone can play Second Life on their macbook. I just got the new Nov 07 macbook with 2gb of ram. I installed Second Life and am able to get to Orientation Island, but after less than a minute it freezes up. This happens everytime. I know this macbook isn't meant for games, but I've heard of other people with the older video cards that are able to play this game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here is info for newer MacBook Pro users with the nVidia 8600 chip: Second Life will crash after short use due to a memory leak that apparently derives from the drivers Apple is using. This leak is known to Apple and Second Life, and SL says they can't do anything about it. It is a !@#@$!-ing drag, but until Apple gets their act together and fixes it, there is only a shoddy workaround available that I have not personally tried. In the meantime I just run SL on my iMac G5.

Here are a couple of links:

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/MacBookPro_2007_Graphics_FreezeWorkaround
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1978

The last link has some correspondence from some Lindens about their contact with Apple.

Bottom line, this *****, and Apple/nVidia should be doing something about it, but so far no progress in sight. The fact that this problem continues with Leopard is really, really disappointing.

IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING MORE UP-TO-DATE THAN THIS, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW, TOO!!

Just got my wife a new MacBook (White w 2gb ram). Everything works well and the MacBook does so many things faster than my iMac G5. Yesterday I wanted to show her what Second Life was all about. SL loaded up super fast and then after about 30 seconds to a minute it froze the whole computer and I had to shut it down and re-start. Not a great way for her to get to know Sl : (
What a drag. I'm really disappointed. I assumed that if it ran well on my 4 year old iMac that it should run GREAT on a new MacBook. This is the first time I've been sorry about a Mac purchase. I did not think to check into this issue before I ordered it. What a drag.

Hello,
I've got a june 2007 Macbook pro,(under Tiger at this time) SL manage to freeze the whole computer, no other software did that before...
When SL does'nt freeze the mac, it's VERY slow (slower than my old pc)

At this time, I suggest you to install unbuntu linux 🙂 or windows XP 😟 in dual boot to play SL,
waiting Apple and Nvidia to make better Mac drivers.

I though I had bought a powerful laptop, with an honnest graphic card, seems to be a bad joke.
