Playing Second Life on new MacBook

I was wondering if anyone can play Second Life on their macbook. I just got the new Nov 07 macbook with 2gb of ram. I installed Second Life and am able to get to Orientation Island, but after less than a minute it freezes up. This happens everytime. I know this macbook isn't meant for games, but I've heard of other people with the older video cards that are able to play this game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The bug on the Second Life Jira is talking about MacBook PRO, but I think this thread originated regarding the plain old MacBook?

Because that's what I just bought (late November 2007), and am having the same problem with.

Do we need to generate a new SL bug specific to the MacBook, or is there a belief that once they fix the drivers for the MBP it will apply to the MB also?

This thread was originally about the regular Macbook. A few have added comments on the MBPro, which also has issues with SL. It is a bit confusing.

The problem(s) arise from the graphics. And because the two models have totally different graphics systems, a fix for one is highly unlikely to fix the other. MBPro uses the NVIDIA GF 8600M GT, the MB uses the onboard Intel GMA X3100. Neither plays nice with SL but the Nov 07 Macbook cannot play it at all, and freezes almost immediately. Both the prior generation MB (Intel GMA 950) and MBPro (ATI Radeon X1600) could play the game. So this is progress?

I actually returned my MB for that reason. When either Linden or Apple fixes the problem, I'll consider rebuying.

The fact that the same problem is happening on multiple MacBook/MacBook Pro models with different video cards implies a problem larger than individual drivers.

It would seem logical to me that there is a problem with OpenGL in general, or Linden Labs' implementation to using OpenGL. Apple well known for changing things under the hood without telling developers and the Lindens are notorious for just tossing out fatal updates.
