I was wondering if anyone can play Second Life on their macbook. I just got the new Nov 07 macbook with 2gb of ram. I installed Second Life and am able to get to Orientation Island, but after less than a minute it freezes up. This happens everytime. I know this macbook isn't meant for games, but I've heard of other people with the older video cards that are able to play this game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andrew, I tried the workaround above using the OpenGL Profiler.app and selected "Apple Software Renderer" as my graphics driver and I still experience the same freezing. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I am not sure what to tell you. It works for me. The only idea I can add is to suggest possibly experimenting with the other options in that Profiler. Try driver possibilities other than "Apple Software Renderer."
hi got the same problems as all of the above. tried open gl on several settings. which one did u find the best? do i have to do anything else? heeeelp. already pulling teeth out over protools issues. need some hope. this is my first ever mac and its not looking great so far!!!
Newbie on a Mac here as well. I was specifically sent a new Mac because my PC wouldn't play nice on SL, now the brand new one doesn't play at all...sigh. Great gift to me but gotta get SL working on it. Any updated luck on changing settings? HEEELLLPPP!!! 🙂
Following the directions in the Wiki link in posts above does seem to work for most people. If you are unsure as to what driver to use, play it safe and choose "Apple Software Renderer."
Hi Disco,
Were you able to find a fix? I have your exact same configuration and experience the same problem, of course. I tried to run "OpenGL Profiler.app" and got this scary warning message about how my settings would be changed if I went forward. I went forward and was unable to find anything remotely like Apple renderer or how to change your drive. Any hint would be greatly welcome. Thanks!
I have done the same edit to the xml file detailed above in the Mac OS Viewer and it WORKED.
I don't know if there are any side effects from doing this but it's a lot easier than downloading the OpenGL Profiler and all that jazz.
