itunes for 8.6 os

Hi!
I recently got "classic" iMac from a family member that went to PC & just wanted rid of it. I have an eMac w/OSX & don't have any knowledge with this os. I've used 9.2 but nothing prior to that.
I want to use this iMac for song storage because I already have 2 other computers (1 mac, 1 pc) & that's really the only thing I wanted it for. It is still in good working condition (I'm using it right now to send this post) although it is slow. If I could find a use for it then I could keep it, otherwise it's just taking up space.
Are there any iTunes programs that will work on this iMac? The only thing I have come across requires an os of 9 or later. I thought I could just download the upgrade but I read that you have buy it. I'm really not interested in spending any money on this machine unless it is very minimal.
Here are the computer details: iMac 8.6 PowerPC G3 w/333 MHz processor.
Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

ITunes Mac OS 8.6 patch - Unlocks the iTunes installer and application, so that they will run on Mac OS 8.6 (Mac OS 8.0/8.1 and 8.5/8.5.1 use a different interface library which is not compatible with iTunes.)

Download of iTunes version 1.x is also available at this site.

Another alternative (and one that would let you use your cd-writer to burn audio cd's, which iTunes doesn't) is SoundJam. It's free, you can pay the license fee, but the only good thing about that is that you get to use the equalizer (which I never used) and it let's you convert soundfiles into some other soundfiles, but there are zillions of other tools for that anyway. So don't pay, try the equalizer out for 30 days and notice you never use it anyway, and then just let the extra's vanish, and use the freeware stuff from that moment on.
It's a nice piece of software, and I think is better than iTunes on OS 8.x
It can be downloaded here:

It is possible to run iTunes 1.0 or 1.1 under OS 8.6 if you use iTunes Patch, I have it on my 5500.
iTunes Patch is available here -

However, you may have trouble getting iTunes 1.0 or 1.1, I think it used to be available from Apple's download archive, but I was not able to find it just a few minutes ago. Some-one else may be able to help in this regard.

Hi, Melanie. If all you want is more storage space for music, why not just buy an external hard drive — or, if there's space available, add another internal drive to your G4? That would take up a lot less space than a bulky iMac, and you wouldn't need to track down an old version of iTunes or maintain another computer. And you could give the iMac to someone who could really use it.

I really don't need the extra storage space at the moment, I just wanted to utilize this machine instead of putting it out to pasture. I have a thing about throwing away stuff that still technically works. I guess I was just looking for a reason to keep it alive & figured music would be the best thing to store on it. Thanks for your input though. I will definately keep the external drives in mind for the future.

Tom,
I followed your link to the website but I'm not sure what I'm suppose to be looking at. I checked out a few of the links under iTunes but they seem to be for music downloading. Is there a particular site I need to become a member of to get the patch & iTunes v1.x that you mentioned in your post? I'm not too much of a web surfer so I might just be missing it.
Thanks for your reply.
