Am I the only one with a blip/pop noise?!

I get this incredibly annoying, semi-subtle single pop sound every now and then. At times, it happens a few times a minute. Other times it won't happen for up to ten minutes. It happens even with all programs off, and with the sound on or off (and no, it isn't from pressing the volume buttons). It likes to make the popping sound the second before it goes into sleep mode. I'm thinking it's either from the hard drive caching or trying to park, or maybe something with the power supply inside. I don't see anyone else experiencing this, which is odd because I had just returned a regular MacBook before buying my MBP and the MacBook had the same exact issue.

Add another MBP to the annoying "plick" list!!!

Just bought a macmall closeout model and fresh from the box...

Fujitsu 120gig
I'd rather not do the hdapm file install as it will reduce the life efficiency of the drive as well as possibly create more problems down the road (when the warranty is gone). I'd rather have apple address it and issue an update!?!?!?

I think I am going to have to send it back. I'd like to know definitively which drive/model combo to avoid, I'd gladly upgrade/pay more to avoid this annoying flaw.

I was mistaken in my previous post when I said my wifes 2.4 penryn MBP doesn't make this noise. IT DOES!

And so does mine still, I'm really dubious about the hdapm install thing and what it does, I have sent and email to mac Format magazine to see if they can shed some impartial light on this matter, i will also be making a call to Apple soon, to see if I can get some resolution on this.

BUMP, BLIP, PLINK, DING - Normal operating sounds, apparently.

Just received mine back from apple... PLICK!!!!

I even sent in detailed instructions along with the link to this page and the others describing the issue. The invoice says:

+The following services and/or replacement parts were used to service your product:+
+605-1211 SVC,PCBA,MLB,2.2GH+

Anyone know what that means?

I am in the process of hunting down a replacement drive brand I'm happy with at a price that won't break the bank. I also have to pay for an apple tech to do the replacement otherwise I void my entire apple care. Can anyone suggest an specific HDD brands that play well with MBP. Fujitsu are about twice the price of WD, Seagate and Hitachi. Is it a case of you get what you pay for or are some makes better then others?

cheers

I have a MacBook Pro - about 6 months old and ...you guessed it am getting those annoying, intermittent popping, blipping noises consistently.

I am at a loss really and can almost not be bothered to pursue this thing with Apple. The probability of getting someone to understand and to and solve my issue is about zero based upon others and my own experience.

You are not the only one.
