Am I the only one with a blip/pop noise?!

I get this incredibly annoying, semi-subtle single pop sound every now and then. At times, it happens a few times a minute. Other times it won't happen for up to ten minutes. It happens even with all programs off, and with the sound on or off (and no, it isn't from pressing the volume buttons). It likes to make the popping sound the second before it goes into sleep mode. I'm thinking it's either from the hard drive caching or trying to park, or maybe something with the power supply inside. I don't see anyone else experiencing this, which is odd because I had just returned a regular MacBook before buying my MBP and the MacBook had the same exact issue.

MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz, Mac OS X (10.5)

after doing some research, i've divided the Load CycleCount / Power onhours from SMART utility

6149/154 = 39.9 per hour

taking 39.9 * 24 hour * 365 days = 349,774!!!

And most hard drives last around 600,000?? that means my HD is going to fail in less than 2 years.

This aggressive "parking/unparking" of the HD is not only annoying but decrease the life of harddrive,

Anyone have any thoughts?

I have this problem too. I've seen people talk about how they're emailing apple about it which I would also like to do. However I can't find an email for them other than if it's about a .mac account or the itunes store. Am I not seeing something? I do have apple care but I don't see the point in dealing with a phone call I just want to let them know it's happening to me too.

thanks
Jen.

You can email them at Steve@mac.com or sjobs@mac.com

I actually email them about this problem and got a call from one of their "Apple Executive Relation" representative.

After talking with her, she suggested me to go to a certified technician to check the noise out, because many of these noises might be how the macbook was designed with.

So maybe enough of us send them emails they might look deeper into the issue. Not sure....how that helps.

Well I thought I was going nuts! Until I found this thread, my 2.2 SR 15" makes this blipping noise quite frequently as it happens, can anyone shed any light on this issue. My wife's 2.4 Penryn does not seem to have this issue, thought he fans on hers do make a lot more noise then on my SR.

To be honest, this sound only really bothers me when I'm in a very quite environment, which is not that often, so until Apple come up with a solution or order a recall I don't think I'll be doing the software patch suggest on page 9.

Will keep in touch with this thread however, this certainly appears to be a widespread problem.

I know what you mean! I have had a new Penryn MBP sitting in the checkout trolley several times, waiting for that final click to buy, but I have been put off by the stories of fan noise, headphone/speaker static and hard disk ping pong...

I appreciate these forums are going to be biased towards problems than success stories, but I am not convinced the latest generation of MBPs are up to scratch... and they cost a lot of money.
